JLR to invest £15bn in electric vehicles
JLR said the first of its next generation medium-size modern luxury SUVs will be an all-electric model from the Range Rover family, launching in 2025 and built at Halewood.
In addition, the first of three reimagined modern luxury Jaguars will be a four-door GT built in Solihull. The new car will have a range up to 700 kms (430 miles), and prices will start from £100,000. More details on the vehicle will be released later this year, before it goes on sale in selected markets in 2024, for client deliveries in 2025.

Just some throwaway energy consumption news, for anyone interested.
Wifey popped out with friends on a longish trip today, up through the Brecon Beacons. We remembered to put the aero covers on the wheels* (first time since bringing it home over a year ago). So Tesla Model Y, dual motor long range, and numbers came out at 208 miles, 49kWh, 236Wh/mile (4.24miles/kWh). Projecting those numbers for a full 100 to zero, but not any mileage after zero, gets to around 300 miles.
Return leg was slightly better than the outbound, which could have been slight height gain, battery/car warmed up, slightly warmer temp. Or all of these, or none of them, who really knows!
Temp here seems a bit low for April at around 10-14C during the day, but I guess that's a comfortable temp for the batteries to operate, as that's quite a good energy figure.
*Nope, no idea if they make much difference or not.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

The "luxury SUV" sounds like nothing more than an updated i-PACE, which is already 5 years into the life-cycle.
The "four-door GT" seems rather behind the EQS which will already offers the range and price-point that Jaguar aspire to but will be a model in line for a face lift by then.
It makes you wonder how Jaguar lost the pace here, being the first of the legacy premium brands to launch an EV and then resting on their laurels it would seem.0 -
A fun, but tbf slightly cherry picked number for BEV sales in Australia. But every little milestone is a small step forward. Australia interests me, as they were pretty late to the party, so interesting to see how things shake out.
Side note - Given the extremely high penetration of domestic/demand side PV in Aus, I assume getting a BEV is a great way to reduce fuel costs, if it's possible to do some daytime charging. Nice package and a growing virtuous circle.Electric vehicle sales in Australia overtake petrol-driven cars in medium category for first time
The Australian Automobile Association’s EV index revealed that from January to March 2023 7,866 battery electric medium-sized cars were bought in Australia, or 58.3% of sales in the medium-sized category. Internal combustion engines still dominate light vehicle sales in all other categories.
In all categories 17,396 battery electric vehicles were sold in the first quarter, for the first time overtaking sales of conventional petrol hybrids, which numbered 16,101.
Sales of battery electric vehicles were up 49.4% on the previous quarter, with 11,639 sold from October to December.
The association’s managing director, Michael Bradley, said “the shift is on”.

Pleasant article looking at how Nissan seem to be quickly ramping up their BEV range now. Gonna be tricky for them unless they can get to mass production soon, but really nice to see that the early leaders are still in the fight.
Nissan Makes Several Moves Toward An EV Future
Over the last few weeks, Nissan had several press releases that aren’t big news on their own. But, taken together, it shows that the company is taking EVs seriously and continues to make them a significant part of the company’s future. Let’s take a look at these news items and see how they add up!

Volkswagen Group delivers 42 percent more all-electric vehicles in the first quarter
The Volkswagen Group successfully continued its transition to electric mobility in the first quarter of 2023. By the end of March, deliveries of all-electric vehicles (BEVs) have risen by 42 percent compared to the prior-year period, which was hit harder by supply chain issues. A total of 141,000 BEVs were handed over to customers, up from 99,200 in the first quarter of 2022. BEVs made up 6.9 percent of total deliveries in this period, compared with 5.2 percent in the first three months of the previous year. Europe was the biggest growth driver here with an increase of 68 percent to 98,300 vehicles. The BEV order backlog in Western Europe remains high at over 260,000 vehicles.Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)0 -
VW's battery plant deal changes Canada's auto sector. Whether it's worth $13B in subsidies is debatable
All that anchor-building doesn't come cheap, however, as the biggest number of all may prove to be the government's contribution to the plan: just over $13 billion, which is the value of tax subsidies that Ottawa will kick in if certain production targets are met.

Quite a milestone by all accounts. With an almost exponential sales growth as below then they may take some catching.
Tesla Just Passed 4 Million Cumulative Sales (Charts)
Tesla sales hit yet another quarterly record in the 1st quarter of 2023. That was overshadowed by the fact that Tesla cut prices several times and gross margins dropped, but Tesla’s phenomenal progress increasing vehicle production and sales quarter after quarter almost without a break is worthy of its own story.
