JKenH said:I took my Leaf in for a service today and was relieved of £209. I was surprised to see how many 0-3 year old Leafs there were on the forecourt for sale.

JKenH said:These survey results announced over the last few days contradict surveys last year when a far higher number of people indicated their next car might be electric. Maybe best to ignore opinion polls and instead look at actual sales.

My local Ford Dealer has £16k for a 2019 Focus Titanium.
Not an outrageous price differential to go electric...1 -

I was so impressed by @JKenH linking the Leafs I actually went in chat to find out some more. (The Tekna I referenced above is now sold.) Anyway, this is how my chat went:
How may I help you?
I see the Leaf cars. What range (mileage) do they do on a charge? Are there different options? Also, which trim level is entry, mid-level, top spec?
I don't have that information, can I have your phone number?
Either, the young lady presenting as AVA via the webchat was so taken by my character from such a limited introduction she just had to get my number, or the training given is wholly inadequate.
I suspect it is the latter.
These were very basic questions. It is just, as we are meant to be returning to the office in April, the time is approaching where going for a new car will start to make sense. I do want to assess the extent to which an EV will fit the bill. I am entirely satisfied that a TM3LR would suffice, except for cost to entry. I need to understand the options for lower cost to entry without too great a compromise on flexibility in use. If the sales contacts are useless, ICE sales will be maintained. My ideal would be a vehicle that can do return trips from Heathrow to Cheltenham or Dover without needing a recharge.3 -

Look on ev-database at cold weather highway range - although even this can be an overestimate if it is windy and raining as well as cold. However if you have a fast charging EV then perhaps having to stop for a 5-10 minute top up would not be a problem.I think....0 -
Thanks @michaels - TM3LR was what I'd identifiedGrumpy_chap said:I am entirely satisfied that a TM3LR would suffice, except for cost to entry.

Ideally pay per mile charging for car use will come in (replacing fuel duty and road tax) which can be fine tuned to address issues like congestion, pollution, local need (remote areas vs cities) etc but I can see it being hugely unpopular even if the revenue raised remains the same.I think....0
