I was talking about a comparison of total per capita electricity consumption which equates to demand which is what concerns generators.Gotcha. I don't think we need 5 times the generating capacity, though. Charging vehicles overnight, grid-scale storage and distributed storage will flatten out the diurnal supply demand curve, which will give better utilisation of generating plant. National Grid seem to be pretty confident it can be done. I guess we'll find out in the fullness of time.3

New Electric MG ZS EV gets Standard Range model – doesn’t go as far, but costs less
Personally I would go for the extra 21kWh for £2k extra. But back in October, MG updated the ZS EV with a bit of a cosmetic titivation and, more importantly, a specced-up powertrain with a bigger battery and greater range.
The new battery – a 72kWh pack – was enough to take the range of the MG ZS up from its original 163 miles to a far more useful 273 miles, but the price went up to £28,495 after PiCG (which by this time was down to £2,500). Which seemed perfectly reasonable considering the big jump in battery size.
But now MG is back with a new ZS EV – the MG ZS EV Standard Range – almost re-delivering the original ZS EV spec but with a battery that’s a bit bigger than the original at 51.1kWh, enough to improve on the original’s range of 163 miles by an extra 35.
The upshot is that you can now have an MG ZX for £27,495 – £2k less than the bigger battery version which now costs £29,495 (after PiCG) – so if you don’t travel too far from home it’s a good buy.

A Tesla Model 3 is 25% cheaper to buy in Norway than the UK. That sort of pricing might speed up EV adoption in the UK; if only Tesla could make them fast enough.

Record demand for used battery electric vehicles, up 119.2% with 40,228 transactions.
Annual demand for battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric (PHEVs) vehicles hit record levels, growing by 119.2% and 75.6% to 40,228 and 56,861 transactions respectively. Hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) transactions also rose by 50.3% to 137,639, a new high. Growth was driven by an increasing number of ultra-low and zero-emission models filtering through to second owners and, combined, these vehicles represented 3.1% of the market.Edit: Out of interest in 2018 15474 new BEVs were sold (0.7% off the new car market) and at the end of 2018 the cumulative figure for BEVs on the road was 193,000. The combined market share for new plug in vehicles in 2018 was 2.6%.Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)0 -

Probably something around 250 miles, maybe a little less. I don't drive fast in the car, always under speed limits. Charging would be mostly at home. Size? I'm not too concerned; something Focus-sized would be fine.0
