I think it will be aimed at people renting who are staying in a resort/hotel that has chargers. They know there is a charger waiting when they get back from their 150 mile day trip, either at their hotel or the Herz office next door. Not so much at those venturing out on long road trips where they are ar the mercy of local infrastructure.JKenH said:
It will be interesting to see how this works out in practice because if the users don’t have home chargers it will place extra strain on the public charging network, superchargers in particular. I have recently seen comments in a couple of videos from Tesla owners in the UK that have highlighted how busy the supercharger network has become with queues at some locations at peak times.Grumpy_chap said:

Hiring an EV is not so straightforward as home charging point is needed also and / or knowledge of public chargers - I would not spend time researching all that for a week or so.
Maybe the target market is EV owners needing a temporary vehicle for whatever reason
I wonder how prices will compare? Premium ICE cars seem to be disproportionately expensive to rent.1 -
Has anyone got an MG5? It seems to tick a lot of the boxes for me in terms of space, range and cost. Is there any other cars I should be looking for at that kind of price?
Edit: just realized, this is probably in the wrong place in the forum. Apologies if so.1 -
How often to people hire vehicles to keep at home? I have hired vehicles for holidays abroad and used available facilities there. Tesla has recharging points (on their mapping system) that are exclusive to their vehicles which are usually convenient for longer journies.Hiring an EV is not so straightforward as home charging point is needed also and / or knowledge of public chargers - I would not spend time researching all that for a week or so.The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

The Supercharger network in the US is pretty comprehensive, they broke 1,000 stations earlier this year, so no problem with long trips. And apparently reached 99% coverage back in 2018.shinytop said:

I don't have one, but FWIW, the MG5 seems an excellent choice to me.2 -
Note there are two battery sizes and a face lift due with better connectivity and driver assist. Car wow is probably your first top for getting best price although there are also 'NHS employee' discounts.2nd_time_buyer said:Has anyone got an MG5? My personal thought is that it's a great package. Wifey and I had planned to sell our Ioniq BEV and get one through her work's salary sacrifice scheme, but the deal wasn't as good as we'd hoped. The Ioniq (and Tesla 3) give excellent efficiency, but their low drag roofline means they aren't the best vehicles for carrying a lot of bulky/awkward stuff ..... or dogo's.2nd_time_buyer said:Has anyone got an MG5? Don't hold me to this (or blame me) but the Chinese are starting to get a good reputation for BEV building, especially on a value for money basis.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 28kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Thanks all. Sounds positive. I had a quick check whether my employer offers salary sacrifice for BEVs. Unfortunately not.

If/when cars like this make it to Europe, they could/will be a game changer .....
