Hmm I dunno about this, a gearbox is another point of failure, I like the simplicity of EV in that there is nothing mechanically switching,  so much less to wear out.

Worn-out NAND flash blamed for Tesla vehicle gremlins, such as rearview cam failures and silenced audio alerts

The perils of making cars too clever.  https://www.theregister.com/2020/11/17/tesla_nand_memory/
Does your car really need to remember every time you hit the indicator stalk or every time you turned on the air conditioning?

    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

More on the 2030 target. Whilst I appreciate that this isn't enough, I personally think the new target is great as it sets out the intention to move away from ICEV's quite quickly and motor towards BEV's. I hope the transition can be accelerated, and perhaps targets revised where possible, but for now, when so many people are unsure of BEV's, just letting everyone know what the future will be, will help to drive the public discussion.

UK ban on new fossil fuel vehicles by 2030 'not enough' to hit climate targets

The prime minister’s plan to bring forward a ban on the sale of new fossil fuel vehicles by 10 years to 2030 will still not go far enough to meet the government’s own legally binding climate targets, according to new research.

Boris Johnson is expected to accelerate the shift to electric vehicles by setting out a new deadline for the sales of polluting passenger cars as part of a 10-point plan to tackle the climate crisis due to be revealed this week.

But a report from New Automotive, a transport thinktank backed by Quadrature Climate Foundation, has warned that the number of fossil fuel cars likely to roll onto British roads before the ban will be enough to blow the UK’s carbon budgets.

Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

Had a letter from Hyundai this morning. My vehicle is being recalled for "electric vehicle battery management system software logic enhancement" whatever that may mean. I phoned and was answered by a live person in 2 minutes. They'll ring me when there's an expert available and the car can be booked in.
