QuoteMeHappy car insurance - £50 voucher not received

I have a car insurance policy with quotemehappy.com (part of Aviva) and my wife also has her car insured with them so we get a multi-car discount. When we renewed our policies earlier this year we got a promotion code for "refer a friend and both get a £50 Amazon voucher".

Our daughter's insurance was due for renewal a couple of months ago so used the code when taking out her policy. Conditions state that new customer would get £50 gift card within 30 days of the start of their policy and existing customer would get £50 gift card within 30 days of their next policy renewal so potential £100 family saving. When her expected £50 did not arrive we contacted quotemehappy and after a few emails going backwards and forwards they are saying that they could not find that a code had been entered and the process had not been done correctly. I know that the code was entered and done correctly. This offer was the reason she took out policy with them but they're not going to give us the voucher.

Anybody else had similar problems?

  • If you can requote them the code over the phone, I don't see why you shouldn't get the voucher. Escalate it up their complaints procedure. If you have no joy I guess you can leave and go elsewhere or threaten to but that will cost you. I am not sure the ombudsman would want to get involved in marketing special promotions but you could try once the complaints process has been exhausted.
  • Prior to my original post I had already emailed them again but was holding out little hope. I fully expected that they would just say that the code had not been registered and we would not get the voucher.

Quote me happy are an online only insurance company so everything is done via email. I was therefore very surprised when I got a phone call this afternoon and to cut a long story short they will be sending a £50 refund to daughter and I will also get £50 off, if and when I renew my policy.

Obviously I am pleased with the outcome and give them top marks for following up even though it took a while to resolve. Just goes to show that if you do have a valid complaint or issue, perseverence can pay off.
