Smart meters – BEWARE

So the man came to change the gas and leccy meters for EDF. Before he goes he tells me that the fuse box/board that’s been fine for the last 20 years or more, no longer complies with modern regulations, and that he is supposed to cut the electricity off, but isn’t going to. There’s also something wrong with siting of the gas meter (replaced by a gas company several years ago, with nary a mention of any potential problems). An online search suggests that a new modern fuse board takes a few hours to fit and test. You might have to pay as much as £500.
So if you live in an older property, a visit from a smart meter fitter might cost you your electricity supply, and an extra £500, that you may or may not have.

The old back board I think , is owned by the occupier even if the meter which it sits upon is owned by the DNO.0 -

That's a new one. Let me guess... was he able to get you a quote for an upgrade, if you'd seemed gullible enough?0 -
& then they wonder why we don't want them on the property!
Mind you after my last fiasco with a gas meter change the chances of me letting them over the doorstep are between slim & neglible. For those who have missed my previous posts on this subject. Specified gas meter change, said as if I had no choice because it was that old, left with a gas leak right under my son's bedroom & told that they were going to charge me to fix it.
Now I have Cadent telling me they are doing work & my gas will be turned off & then on again by them. Do I trust them to do the job properly - well that would be a no. Do I have a choice well that would also be a no. Will I be watching them very carefully - well that will be a very definite yes.0
