Question about savings account sort codes

I'm thinking about opening a savings account with my bank (Lloyds). I was just wondering if I open the account in-branch will this savings account have the same sort code as my current account there (opened in the same branch)? If not will this make any difference?

  • It *might* have the same sort code but it will have its own account number, separate from the current account. If the sort code is different, it shouldn't cause any particular problems that I can think of.

I understand it'll have a different account number but I was curious about the sort code. Do savings accounts have different sort codes to standard current accounts at Lloyds?

My online Lloyds accounts have a different sort code to my in person ones. My Barclays accounts have different sort codes depending on my address at the time I opened them.

Whatever the sort code, it shouldn't make any difference to the functioning & indeed HSBC has a 'national' sort code used to veil the location of victims of domestic & financial abuse.

historically, each full branch had its own sort code. So, any accounts opened at that branch would have the same sort code.

However, Lloyds no longer has branch unique sort codes. So, the sort code allocated to you for additional accounts may be different to your current account.
