Washing machine recommendations

We have had several Bosch machines and they have all served us well, most of the machines built in Germany were great quality,ie Bosch,AEG, etc but i beleive some of these are now built elsewhere in the world,i know Miele used to give the longest warranty but were also the most expensive.0

I bought a Hoover in 2006 for £299.95 (it still has the sticker on!) and it has been very reliable.
As others have said, this machine only had about 6 programmes, with a turn dial (not LED/touch screen, etc.) and I think I only used 2 or 3 of the programmes. If you keep it simple, there's less to go wrong!(Nearly) dunroving0 -
I bought an LG machine 14 years ago - it cost me £600 then and it's still going strong.
+1 for LG - I inherited one in my last house and it was perfect. I made a mistake of leaving it when I moved house, but bought another LG and very happy with that too.To err is human, but it is against company policy.0 -
Historically speaking always been pleased with bosch engineering (usually same as siemens & neff brands inside!). Last machine is a direct drive one -no belt - and is great.....
.......except rinsing is not so good as we would like but from reports it seems on a par with many a modern machine!
Edit:
LG and Siemens come out best buys for the £1K ish ranges, samsung tops the midrange and bosch and zanussi the best at under £350.
Avoid hisense and Logik......
....according to latest Which report.
That seems to go against my earlier statement regarding common engineering innards!!!0 -
I'd like it to have a high spin rate - my current machine does 1600 which is great for subsequent air drying. Good energy rating.
Spin speed is not a good measure look at the spin efficiency on the product fiche.
You need "A" rated and as low a xx% as is sensible for the price.
Energy rating are pretty much useless as they only apply to the eco washes* used for testing that take 3hours and nearly every machine is A+++ these days.
If available in the manuals check the ratings/water use for the washes you will be using
Also check capacity the headline 7,8,9,10kg is just for the cotton washes.
the manual should have te loads for the real washes, often the 30min wash will be something like 2kg-3kg.
Delay timer can be useful for the long washes you can plan better.
If you don't mind mixing or have plenty of clothes to do full load washes a bigger capacity machine can keep the number of washes down.
* They achieve the ratings by using less water and lower temps most of the energy is used to heat water.
extra rinse option can be useful to overcome the poor rinse of machines that try to use less water.0 -
I am just replacing my machine. I have an extremeley good washing machine repair man - his advice is to get a Bosch and pay around the £350 mark, or if you want to pay a bit less, go for a Beko at around the £250 mark .
He says Miele are of comparable quality to Bosch but if they do go wrong, the parts are significnatly more expensive. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
Get a trial subscription to Which magazine and read some reviews would be a good start, also look out for deals coming up via hotukdeals.com, and don't forget Black Friday is just around the corner.
My local library subscribes to Which Magazine
They also have online access to all reports
Very useful

Family of 4 with a Bosch washing machine that is at least 10 years old and still going strong. Our Bosch fridge is at least 18 years old and the Bosch dishwasher is around 8 years old.
We don't buy top of the range as I don't need flashy digital display panels and 200 functions I will never use (also less to go wrong)."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -
Good to hear so many Bosch recommendations, as we bought one a few weeks ago!!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0
