tenancy notice period

hello, i did have a six month contract to rent a property from february 2017 to july 2017 but since then i have been on a rolling contract paying each month since then, granted i had no protection to stop the landlord ending that tenancy whenever they wanted and as the house has been on sale for the past year, that could have been any time

i have today given my one months notice and paid the rent up till next month but the letting agency has informed me that i have to give two months written notice on the 21st of january which doesnt make sense as that would leave me paying rent up till march 2020 and i cant find any information that confirms this and only that 21 days notice is common time period, the property is in scotland, where do i stand ?

OP is on a rolling tenancy, so either 4 weeks or 1 month.
  • Taken from Shelter Scotland site:

Your tenancy agreement should state the amount of notice you should give. If the notice is not stated on your agreement, then the minimum notice you have to give is: 28 days if your initial tenancy was for less than four months. 40 days if your initial tenancy was longer than four months.
