Do I need to skim coat my drywall?

I've just removed 4 (four!) layers of wallpapers from my wall.
The bottom layer was applied without the drywall being primed
The wall has some sopts to repair but it isn't in terrible shape.
I am planning to put new WALLPAPER on the walls.
I understand that I have to:
1) Sand the walls.
2) Prime it.
3) Repair bad patches
4) Prime it again to cover the patches
Question: Do I have to apply 2 layers of skim coat? After all, sounds to me that for wallpaper I don't necessarily need a level 5 surface.
Thanks for your input.
Peter

No, Just repair and size it, drywall should, after repair be smooth enough for wall paper. If it's not then you haven't repaired it properly.0
