Apple TV+ free trial - what is it?

I have a one year trial of Apple TV+, normal cost £4.99 per month.
I don't have Apple TV or anything, just the app.
What does my free trial get me? On the app I can see some BBC stuff, some Prime Video stuff and some stuff that you can pay a one-off charge for. Some of it seems to be just links to open in a different app.

The Apple TV app is just an app that allows you a central place to access various streaming services. Apple TV+ is a new streaming service that has exclusive Apple produced content that launched a few weeks ago. It can be accessed via the Apple TV app.
