How to Repair Leaking Guttering Joint

We have one leaking guttering joint which constant;y drips when there is any rain. Is there a simple way of repairing this section without replacing any guttering. This is where two sections of guttering meet. Thank you

  • Take it apart, clean the join, check the rubber seal isn't pinched, perished or split and put back together again. It may need a new seal or the seal might just be pinched and not doing its job.

Or the gutter may even have moved away from the seal & just needs pushing along a bit.

Clean and dry the joints and put some outdoor silicone down into it.

To be honest, if the joint is leaking, just replace that part. The maker will be marked on it somewhere. Check that they haven't changed the sizes though. Some of them do. (Mine of course!)
If you're up there anyway, it's just as easy to change it as anything else.

That's assuming it's plastic. If it's cast iron or something else, I'd remake the joint.
  • Don’t bother with silicone, it’s a bodge. As others have said you either just need to clean and reattach the join or if the rubber seal is damaged, replace it.
