We rent a flat from social landlord Places for people and this week we have had issues with the boiler that gives us our hot water and hot eater.
So after having them come out 3 days in a row the 3rd guy told us we needed a brand new boiler as it had given up the ghost and the parts that was needed to fix it would be hard to get as it's a old boiler.
So we have been left with no heating or hot water but they have given us a couple of heaters till there sub contractor fits new boiler.
Now what I would like to know is how many days is a reasonable amount of time to give them to fit new one as they are well known to leave people with no heating for a few weeks.
I understand that these things can not be sorted in a day but I do feel they will drag it out and what should be my next move as I feel the unacceptable to leave us like they have.
Any advice please.

So long as you have been given a method of heating, which they have, and there is no vulnerable people, babies or elderly with additional needs, they can take as long as it takes.
You could ask for a contribution towards electricity for the heaters they've given you.0 -
Given that you have been given a way to heat your home, what would be reasonable may turn on whether you have an immersion heater or not.
If you have an immersion heater, you have a way to get hot water and heat your home, so replacing your boiler in 8-10 weeks would be reasonable. If you don't have an immersion heater, I think it would be reasonabe to only have to wait two to three weeks for a new boiler to be installed.
You should make a formal complaint to Places for People if they haven't confirmed a date for the install with you within two weeks, or if that install date isn't within these 'reasonable' perriods.
If they don't confirm an installation date that is within these reasonable periods, you could consider making a complaint to the Housing Ombudsman Service. Use this link: https://www.housing-ombudsman.org.uk/residents/make-a-complaint/
Asking for compensation for the extra electricity you are spending is a sensible step. Use your electricity bills to show what your 'normal' consumption is and ask for a substantial contribution to any excess usage. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
took 4-5 weeks for a engineer to install a new boiler for my elderly parents' in a non social housing. So you may not get it quicker or even longer as winter is a busy time for the tradesman
Home owner or not, Tradesman don't take priority"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Places for People have their own in house repair team including gas safe engineers. Grahams Plumbing Merchants are one of their chosen suppliers and they are a national chain with branches almost everywhere. They will have in stock whatever make of boiler PfP specify.
The real issue will be getting PfP to pull their finger out and spend some money.0
