Is it not that there is still credit on the meter?
We're in rented and have Utilita as a pay as you go meter, can be topped up online with an account aswell so no messing about with cards in shops.
We like the convenience and fact that theres no surprise bills, so much so that we'll be getting it put into our new build that we're buying.0 -
The previous suppliers continue to be the default suppliers - but you're free to change them to whoever you wish.I am a bit confused as to what to do about gas/ electricity accounts. The EA has provided names of the companies that are providing energy. The electricity is pay as you go, topped up by card as it was rented.
But I thought the gas would have been automatically been cut off?;? When a house is sold don't the gas/ electric contracts end automatically?? And then it's up to me to get new contracts when I want as not moving in asap, so not in a rush. Sooo confused!
The PAYG gas - unless you can't get a credit account, get that changed asap. And make sure you haven't had any previous debt "carried forward".0 -
Thank you for the response. It is electricity that is PAYGO and the seller has given the card that's used to top it up0

DO NOT use the card the the sellers gave you.
If they had any outstanding debt then you will be paying it off for them every time you top up. You need to request a new card and a new account from the existing supplier - last time I did this I was able to pop to the local newsagents to pick up a new card.0 -
Can’t you see on the meter if there’s a deduction for debt?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
