If it is a USB hard drive, once you plug the USB cable in, it will show as a removeable drive in Windows Explorer.
Just Copy or move files across from your folders to your new drive0 -

Sorry if this is a really basic question but I've just bought an external hard drive to put all my music on and haven't yet managed to work out how to transfer my music files. I have itunes, sony ericsson disc to phone and also sonicstage, all of which are separate files.
Can anyone offer me any advice, please. (in very simple computer speak!!)
ok,
itunes, sony ericsson disc to phone, and sonic stage, are programs, which reside on your computer.
you then have your music files, which are stored elsewhere, and these are normally MP3 files.
What you need to think about to start off with, is which has more of your music in. Personally, out of those three programs, itunes is my preferred choice, so i'll give you my explanation around that.
Firstly, you need to find out where you music files are located. this is in the itunes music library folder, but where is it. iTunes will tell you, so go into the iTunes Preferences (i think it is in Edit.. Preferences, but it could be File.. Preferences, sorry, i use a mac, so i can't be 100%), and a window pops up with the word General at the top, and some choices.
now click on advanced (don't worry, we are not changing anything just yet), and then it says
itunes music folder location
in that box, is a path (a pointer) to where your music is stored.
Click on My Computer, the drive it is located in (probably C:/) and keep going through the folders, so you can find your music.
You'll most probably end up with a folder called iTunes Music, and in that one should be loads of artists folders.
the iTunes Music folder is what you need to drag to your new hard drive.
however, not all is done, you need to tell itunes that you have moved your music. click Change, and browse to your new folder on your new hard drive, and click ok..
i think thats it, and it should work....
as for sonic stage and sonyericsson, i can't help on them..0 -
Sonicstage - go into tools>options>location to save imported files.
This will show you where your files are currently and allow you to change the location you want them to go in future.Charlie0
