Mobile 'phone for hard of hearing - how to search.

My hearing is getting worse and (unrelated skin problem) I often cannot wear my hearing aid.

My searches for the best mobile 'phone don't seem to provide the recommendation I need. If anyone can advise it would be great because I am really struggling.

I can hear my mobile ringing on normal tone so the ringer sound/volume is not a problem.

During a call (making a call or answering a call) I can barely hear at all, unless on loudspeaker, but I can never get the loudspeaker volume high enough for me to hear well adequately. Outside or on a bus I cannot hear well enough to make sense of the call at all - it is so frustrating and can annoy whoever I am trying to communicate with. Privacy is not a problem as if others can hear I would be brrief and very discreet - I would just love to hear well enough on a really good loudspeaker - even when using my mobile at home.

My search results seem to focus on the loudness of the ringer but the ringer is not a problem for me. I would love a new mobile 'phone to use for calls and not just texts.

On my landline at home the loudspeaker volume is perfect for me.

If anyone can make a recommendation, or advise me how to search properly it would help me such a lot, thank you. I have an EE sim only 12 month contract and would prefer to just change my 'phone. Thank you.

Thank you very much, mac.d. One of the 'phones has up to 40 db and I'm going to look in more detail. It is a really good link and gives me a lot to look at.



Much appreciated. If any forum users use any of the mobile phones in the top 10 link you provided I would be very interested to hear their experiences.

The would cut out the surrounding noise.

Thank you greyteam1959. Unfortunately I have psoriasis in both ear canals and significant scarring from repeated inflammation - I can only wear my hearing aid for for very short periods. I am allergic to a number of things and tinnitus is also a problem.

Murmansk - I have mixed nerve and conduction hearing loss and I have been advised that conduction 'aids' are not suitable. I have hypoallergenic moulds and they help to a limited extent when I have no inflammation and my psoriasis is 'calm'.

The link mac.d has given is helpful and I might manage better with the 40 dcb loudspeaker one. My present one goes up to 35 dcb and helped a lot at first but my hearing is worse now. I have had lots of different types of treatments although nothing has brought a lasting solution. ... In my 70's now and some of the hearing loss seems to be age related now - old age, as is said, does not come alone!

Would asking people to text you/ whatsapp a solution?
obviously you need a phone with larger screen.

Thanks for replying Cisco001 post 8. I use text and whatsapp. Often I would need an 'ordinary voice' two way conversation like on the telephone. That is what I am hoping for although it is very difficult to achieve this.


My present mobile was good enough for a while - before my hearing got worse. I wonder if a mobile smartphone with a handset loudspeaker volume of 40 db would help. I wondered if any reader had one and could comment or if I could track one down in a shop to try before buying. I'll keep looking.

Thanks for all the replies. I am interested in the Moto G7 Power with the longer battery life. The recommended 'phones have up to 35 dB loudspeaker. When looking at G7 power specifications it says 'loudspeaker ' but not maximum loudspeaker dB to let me compare.

If anyone knows or can direct me to find out it will be really appreciated, thanks.

Argos have this 'phone for £159.95 and Very seems to be the cheapest at £139.99. I have never purchased from Very before and wonder if it is the same 'phone and would be safe to order - if the loudspeaker volume would be suitable.
