Travel Insurance for 85 year old

Hi,

Who offers good value travel insurance for 85 year old with no medical problems?

Missile - I shopped around this year for an 86 year old and found the BMC ( british mountain climbing society) the cheapest - even with the £20 membership added on. [They do insurance just for travellers with no age restriction]. I've also seen a couple of threads on this very topic elsewhere on the forum - so worth doing a search. Hope you get sorted.

My first thought was SAGA, but was told they do not cover 85+. I was very surprised to get a quote from M&S = £73.37 for 14 days in July 2008. Help the Aged = £120 annual cover.

try american express too. we were having trouble finding a reasonable quote for my grandmother (90) and they were just over £100 for 4 weeks to india

I had a great annual policy with Help the Aged. It was similar to the above £124 I think and covered my heart problems BUT at the renewal date I was asked to renew at the same price but I declined at this was in April and I wasn't going away until Oct. When I asked for a new quote in Oct they would no longer cover my heart. Then the fun started; I was on the phone for days. No one would cover the pacemaker - not worked that one out yet except that they are very expensive, $20,000 in the US, but I can't see it malfunctioning. In the end I got a single trip policy with one of the building societies, not sure which but they are often very competitive. It was about £76 for both of us. My heart was covered but not the PM.

If travelling with a Ryanair ticket they sell insurance with no age restrictions. Have used it several times with my 97 year old father but,fortunately, have never had to find out whether they would renage on it if anything did occur.

We have just been on holiday with my father in law, to Spain,who is the opposite in health to you.Severe asthma,3 heart attacks etc.We tried all the usual companies,but on the basis that they want to show a profit on the premium,they were quoting £400 for a week,and excluding all his pre existing conditions.

After looking at an HM.GOV website,(exact add.unknown),it actively encouraged people with severe problems to go away on holiday.It even said to notify the local hospital there,if oxygen would be needed during the stay.

It would be important to obtain the new plastic health card(which replaced the e111 and is free)and take it with you,as this gives you reciprical health care in Europe.If you fall ill over there,it is very important to get the ambulance to take you to a PUBLIC hospital.

It is generally accepted that the Spanish healthcare system is one of the best in the world,it may be worse in other European countries.

I think that much of the comforting info.comes with a booklet that arrives through the post with the Healthcard.

It states that you will not get repatriated after your stay.

So if its Spain you are after,do not give it a second thought. Enjoy.
