buying a Mac?

  • As others have said the refurbished ones direct from Applestore are as new and best way to buy new.
But it is worth going into any Apple retailer and asking about ex display ones as these usually come with the full Apple guarantee.
I have bought several Macbooks from Applestore refurbished and all were indistinguishable from new. Wait for a new model to be announced and the stock of the old model is sold there.
When buying go for the cheapest you can with what you want and look at buying Applecare extended care on Ebay etc. this gives you unlimited calls to their help line whilst you are getting to know your Macbook.

I have just purchased a 21017 model MacBook air new from John Lewis (2 year warranty) for under £800 , this will do all you need , not seen cheaper,(I think of you take out a JL credit card you can get a voucher to spend on store, )
I'm very pleased with my first Mac. Not very money saving though, might be worth waiting for Nov 29 though..

I'd say go for a Chromebook. Best of all worlds then. Cheap, no hassle, easy to use, quick and efficient, no updates/spyware/malware/support issues. Perfect for your (and most people these days) needs.

Absolutely a worse choice than a tablet, and has about the same lifespan ...six years from build.

If you are having issues with Windows, solve those.

The OP is trying to by moving to a operating system which isn't so bl**dy awkward and annoying.

OP go for a Mac, you won't regret it.

How so? Sounds like a perfect solution to me. £200-400 will get a decebt chgrombook that will do everything they need, with no hassle, or downside.

And the 6 years things is rubbish.

This is probably more powerful than you need, but it'll be great for your needs for years to come:-

Exactly what I did 8 years ago. I'd never go back to Windows.
