Economy 7 to Standard Help

Hi all,

First time forum posting so thanks in advance.

my situation currently is that im on an E7 Tariff, in a 3 bed house with just me and my partner. Currently, we have our immersion heater (duel immersion, 210Ltank) which kicks in overnight using the cheap electric, and one storage heater in the lounge/dining room which is really past its best.

What im wanting to achieve is to move from an E7 tarrif to a standard fixed Tariff and pay DD each month. My problem is that I can easily remove the storage heater myself and invest in some good electric radiators but my problem comes down to the duel immersion. By removing the E7 tariff, my immersion is going to be working all day which I can see is going to raise my price up by quite a margin.

My first thought was to simply live of the boost supply on the immersion, and having that on a timer where I can pop it on for around two hours early in the morning. Im sure that will heat enough water for two showers and washing up (nothing else needs the hot water).

I really think ill be saving money from not using the storage heater because were not at home very often...

Has anyone got any other ideas or think that this is doable are am I being a bit of a wally? Any help appreciated, thanks

Have you done the sums? Will you really save money with full price electricity powering the new radiators? I assume there's no way you can get gas?

Remember that you don't need to change the meter because many suppliers will just add up the two readings. A heavy duty timeswitch is quite realistic for an immersion heater, just make sure it's a suitable type with battery backup.

As advised, do your sums by visiting a few comparison sites to get the lowest possible Eco 7 rates you can get. Earlier this year I was getting quotes for the lowest rates by suppliers for Eco 7 which were beating the best single rates .Visit at least three and don t forget to tick the box which "shows all suppliers " Going single rate either by adding the two rate s together or even changing the meter and configure to single rate may not be the most economic way..

.......................... Please I hope these electric radiators are not the magic dust type .................... you'll do just as well with some from Argos.

What's your consumption day/night ? My initial thought is that your bills will go up (a fair bit) if you change.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
