O/S Daily Friday 15 November 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH watching catchup tv, DS1 gone to work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Light, wet underfoot and cool.

Dinner last night was LO's from the roast for DS1, DH and myself had a big sandwich and crisps etc at lunchtime so only wanted a small meal, he had sausage and egg sandwich, I had a sausage sandwich. I will organise something for dinner when I do the food shop this morning.

Yesterday we went to the shopping outlet but it was raining really heavily and it's not under cover so we didn't stay long, although got some good purchases.

Today will be a quiet day, I won't be doing too much. I haven't got as much done this week as I would have liked. To be honest I'd rather have had the time off on my own as I would have got more done.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Not as cold this morning but still chilly.

I visited the lovely Gers after work yesterday, she's in good spirits and being very well looked after.

I have DS1 and the DGC coming for the weekend, they are going to see DD and baby Sophie this afternoon then on to me when I finish work, really looking forward to seeing them although I'll be exhausted on Sunday!

Hope all's well with you, take care. XX
  • Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.

NPM I was really sad reading your post, I'm so sorry.

Camelot thank you for the update on Gers.

After a day of torrents it seems milder today and not actually raining. I might go out as I've been at home for several days.

Our car is out of action and Mr ancient is trying to decide whether to keep it or not - it is pretty old. I think we do need a car. I can manage locally on the bus but there are times when I do have to be further afield and similarly for the mister and son. Not everywhere is easily accessible by bus and train. We are fortunate locally as the bus service is good in this big city, no huge rush but I have to visit the organisations I work for and that's going to be difficult.

Oh well, it will sort itself out in the end.

Speky I watch very little TV and have never seen Judge Rinder but it does sound fun.

Dumpling, wishing good things for your sweet Phoebe.

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Heavy rain earlier but now easing and then supposed to be a fine (but cloudy) day.

Just eldest DGD sleeping here last night and she wandered up to her friends about 10 mins ago. I'm glad getting middle DGD up, after her late arrival home from Wembley, isn't my job this morning!!

CAMELOT good to hear our GERS is in good spirits and getting well looked after.

It's W day here = Window Day, at last!!! Only 2 windows getting replaced thankfully. They said they were so busy it would be 6 to 8 weeks and it's actually been 9! The bathroom window has always been ill fitting so I hope the new window makes it a bit warmer in there!

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad and convalescing amongst us. Take care all xx

  • Good morning,

    We made it to Friday!

Popped into the gym for a bit yesterday after work to go a light run, my neck was mostly ok. Home for a nice homemade dinner, a phone call with my mum and then football training. But, as usual, I had a terrible nights sleep after training. Took me ages to nod off and was restless during. So no gym this morning.

Ever day this week, I have had a super productive day in work and this could be to do with the fact my boss is on holiday. This seems counter counter-intuitive but I compare it to when I was young, maybe a young teenager: like most kids, my mum would always remind me to go for a bath/shower, face my face and brush my teeth before bed, every single night. Then, I remember the first night she was going to be late home and I had the house to myself, with nobody to remind me to do anything, and so I became super organised and prepared, as I didn't want to forget. So much so that I done additional chores because I was in this productive mindset. So, perhaps I subconsciously have a similar mindset at work. He's back today, so let's see how I manage today.

I'll go to the gym after work for a bit then my weekly phone call with my gran as I make my dinner. I pencilled in a night out tonight with my mate but he's not got back to me lately so I doubt if it's happening. If it doesn't, fine, I'm saving the cash. If it does, fine, it's been a while and I might make some new friends.

NPM - Nice to see you back and really well done on the fantastic fund raising you've done too. Sorry again for your loss.

    Morning all

Horrid day here it looks very wintery out of the window, drizzly and blowing a gale. I have put the heating on for an extra hour to take the chill off.

My foot seems a bit better this morning that horrible pain is much less so I am hoping the resting is helping, the real test will be work next week and standing on it all day !

I have put a wash on the go which will have to go in the TD and will have a very quick sweep round and then foot up again for the afternoon.

Not sure about dinner tonight there is some filled pasta in the fridge but we dont have salad so will have a think on that one, if not there is always spag bol as a back up.

Camelot im so glad Gers was ok when you saw her xx

TA Ohhh new windows !! they should make a big difference to the warmth xx

Right need another cuppa, have good days all xx

    Morning :hello:

redruby The deltoid ligaments in mr tru's foot are/were inflamed (the latest injection, in the bottom of his foot this time, wasn't too long ago so we don't know if it's worked yet – it's looking good though, with the others the pain had returned by now). Because it was painful, he was walking a bit awkwardly so wasn't using the plantar fascia properly which caused that to hurt too. He had to stretch it by standing on the edge of a step and lowering his heels so they were lower than the step – hope that makes sense! - for a couple of seconds, repeat up to 10 times. He did that as aften as he could, but sometimes only once a day if it was too painful. That seems to be OK now, he just has to give it a couple more months to see if the pain comes back from the original problem.

I'm glad Gers is doing well, thanks for letting us know camelot x

Official things have gone quiet here, it's just a case of waiting now. But people have started ringing to ask when the funeral is, it's getting a bit much to be honest. I don't know how people have managed to get our phone number, and a couple of them are names I've heard but I've never met them. I don't want to explain the delay to everyone, especially people I've never even met! I'm tempted to unplug the phone and extend my mobile's very small contact list to include in-laws for the first time ever :D

I rained heavily all day yesterday so we didn't go out. Scamp was climbing the walls with boredom all day, by 3pm his behaviour was causing me to climb the walls with him, lol. There's no rain at the moment, hopefully we'll have a decent walk this morning before it starts again. There's not much to do here, just a bit of housework then I'll read for a while.

Thanks for all your good wishes.

NPM, I was so sorry to hear of the loss of Noah, I used to love reading about the things he did.

Gers, hope things are still going well.

we've had a visit to A and E this morning because Steve's temp spiked and Addenbrookes advised going to get checked. Luckily it was empty and we were seen quickly but then had a long wait after x-ray. They think it's a virus so just wait till it goes

We have a name! The little bean is to be called Esben which is a Scandinavian name meaning Divine bear.
