National Grid Gas Register
Probably a silly question but how often does it take for the National Grid's gas regsiter to update and reflect a change of gas supply company at a property? As of today we were supposed to be supplied by Scottish Power but the register still has us down as being supplied by the incumbent supplier British Gas. I did the same check for peace of mind for the electricity on the day of switchover with CE Electric (our local distribution company) and the change was reflected the same day. Is it slower for gas and Transco?
The reason I'm being cautious is the fact we've had quite a few problems thanks to British Gas blocking us twice in error and getting two different answers from Scottish Power this morning (one saying the move is still down as pending on their system, someone else saying that's because it's only been switched today).

Hi far,
I hope this still isn't going on for you!!!
Elec can only be changed by sending a data flow from Supplier to MPAS to register. From there there is a lot of data flows back and forth between parties before a full registration has been completed. Sometimes elec reg's don't complete for a while after you start getting bills but it's usually the less important details.
In your case National Grid could see the registration so they have a date for that transfer. I would imagine any further data added would just join the date held. However, maybe someone like SwanJon may know as I'm not much of an authority on gas Supplier processes!
Seems that National Grid still state you are with BGas which makes me think there has been another problem. Have you asked SP?
At the end of the day if no objection has been made, your distributor should be able to see the firm registration date by SP. Doesn't look that way in your case which would say to me that you are still with BGas and somethings gone wrong again.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
Hi again Terry,
Scottish Power have given me 2 answers. One department stated the application is still "Pending" but another department - Sales Support - say that is merely because it's only gone through today. Their online status checker is also still at the "we're requesting a meter read stage" (this was given to them when they first asked on the 19/11/2007) and not at the final "On Supply" stage.
At least this time we know no objection has been made by British Gas for lack of payment - we even got a letter through late last week from them asking us to call and talk about our final bill! British Gas for the record also say we're no longer customers of their's as of today so I am just hoping the National Grid registration is an anomaly but what with the electric registration at CE Electric changing the same day and us having so many issues, I can't help but feel a few months down the line we'll either have bills from both or neither company :mad:0 -
Hi far,
BGas have done their job which is good news so it should be plain sailing from here. That call them letter is just a retention letter to a sales team so worth not bothering with that.
Sounds a bit confusing from SP, but if they are asking for a meter read that would suggest that no objection has been made. Pending stages sometimes just mean an additional data flow is needed in some cases to back up the registration. I would wait & see because BGas have been informed you have left them - which is the best news!!!:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
The gas process can take longer than the elc one - not quite sure why.
An objection would usually happen a couple of weeks before the chaneg over date, so if you have got this far without something from Sp about one it hasn't happened.
If BG are saying you have left, and SP are saying you are on your way it's probably going according to plan.
Pending and waiting for a read may just be two interpretations of the same thing - once the read has been agreed they'll use it. They'll check it with an estimate supplied by BG and then both companies will (should) use you read.
Keep hold of it, and check your last BG bill and first SP one to make sure.0 -
Guess it was paranoia creeping in - just checked with National Grid just now and we are registered for gas with Scottish Power now
Guess it was just a 1 or 2 day delay. 0 -
