Previous addresses not linked on credit file

Hi,

I came back from living in New York for 7 years. I opened a new bank account and I couldn't give a previous uk address for the last six years because I wasn't here. I checked my credit report and it doesn't show any of my previous uk addresses either. Does this mean that I have a new credit file independent of my previous one? And if so, how would they ever be linked?

Thanks

Your previous credit file will be blank if all your credit accounts were closed over 6 years ago so why would you want to link to something blank?
  • thanks for the reply. i left some debt, not a lot, but don't know whether i could have CCJs etc and wanted to find out

I see. Perhaps under the circumstances things are best left the way they are don't you think?
  • Sure. I wanted to sort them out though really (if they are there) but don’t want to stir the hornets nest if I do
  • If you have any CCJ’s you should see them
  • but how can I check? my credit file doesn't seem to be linked to the previous one

Then be glad, because perhaps you've had a lucky escape? If they do exist, they'll effectively not exist at this point anyway due to the time elapsed.

Incidentally, get yourself onto the electoral roll, ask your current account bank about a £50 overdraft facility, and consider applying for a subprime credit card with a very small limit. With *no* credit history it's worse than having a poor one.

Sure, if you maintain two identities.

Are you using the same NI number?
