how can i edit a read only document?

im trying to edit some homework im doing but some of my pages are read only and i dont know how to change it. if i click on a the bit i want to add text to it will bring up an edit box but this is driving me nutz.
im using open office if that helps

can anyone tell me how i can stop it from being read only.

Try "save as" and choose a slightly different name. It should re-save the file in a way you can edit.

nope, still brings up a stupid text box.
thats what i dont understand why does it bring up a text box and if i put the text in there it goes onto the document but i cant actually write it or type it on the document.

This sounds like a form document where it restricts you to typing into pre-defined fields.
See if you can remove the read-only mode by Tools - Options - OpenOffice.org - Security. If no good, try selecting all the text and pasting it into a new document.
