Samsung SSD life expectancy and firmware upgrade.

Hi folks,
I have a 500gb Samsung 850 evo SSD about four years old I think, just installed the Samsung Magician software to check the condition of drive and it says it is good.
I do a lot of system restores with Acronis, so it also states in the Samsung software that I have about 40TB written, expected that due to the number of OS restores I have done with Acronis. hope there is plenty of remaining life in the SSD though?
It does say in the software that there is a firmware update available but as it seems to be running fine think it might be better to skip that?
What do you think, wise thing to do?
Thanks a lot.

You have a backup of any critical files on this SSD ?0

If anything a FW update will extend the life of your SSD. As long as you have backup of the SSD, you have nothing to worry about.
I have updated my Samsung SSDs with all the recent firmware in the past 5-6 years and never had an issue, either with the upgrade process or the performance afterwards.0 -
I have a 500GB 860 EVO ... I installed Magician and ran the FW update straight after installing W10 on it.0

Thanks for replies.
Yes its just the OS on the SSD and I do have acronis backups of it.
Just ran the update and all went well, probably not something that I would want to do often in case if it went wrong, wonder if a firmware update went wrong is it somehow possible to hook the drive up to another computer and correct it that way?
Thanks again.0 -
Do firmware upgrades have any effect on the data stored on the SSD ? Can I just update the firmware and have no loss of data ? Obviously I would do a backup first, but I wouldn't want to be copying data across.0

Depends on the firmware. Some of it will wipe the drive, some won't, it depends on what the firmware does (or doesn't do) in that upgrade. Read all documentation thoroughly before you apply.0 -
My 500GB EVO has never had any updated firmware available since I purchased it just 4 years ago this month. Currently 11.3TB written to the drive and showing condition as good. How is it that some of you have done firmware updates and mine has always said that it is running the latest firmware?
Last Benchmark by Samsung Magician shows 552MB/s read/529 MB/s Write.0 -

That drive is currently warranted at 5y/150TB
at 10TB/Y should be good for 15 years.0 -
Its around 75TBW or 150TBW if you are using a pro version0

I've had my Samsung SSD for about 8 months now and have already written over 40TB to it. There's plenty of life left in it and I'm sure prices will have almost halved by the time I'm due a new one.0
