How many radiators?

I have a quick question about radiators. I have just started renting a one-bedroom maisonette (ground floor flat) and the landlord took out the radiator that was in the living room. The only radiator I have is in the bedroom. I tried having a look online for answers but I wanted to get people's views - should there be a radiator in the living room? The one they took out was under the window and next to the front door (which has a draft but I will get a draft blocker or something similar).

Any help is much appreciated.

When you say "radiator", do you mean this is a gas central heating system which now has only one radiator?

there doesn't need to be radiators in specific rooms, ideally the balance should be that heat can circulate around the property.

A radiator wouldn't be the only source of obtaining heat...are there electric sockets within the lounge that you could plug in portable heaters for example?

My guess would be that this is not a gas fired property and what you may be referring to is the removal of electric or night storage heaters which would be easier to disconnect?

It is not illegal to live in a house or flat without radiators. In fact, there is no legal requirement to have central heating at all.

There may not be any legal requirement to have central heating but there is a legal requirement to have heating

    Nope...................
  • Bear in mind electricity costs approx 4 times gas per kilowatt hour, so if it's a gas CH one, I'd want it back in asap. Economy 7 (night rate elec) is about the same price as gas per kwhr but requires storage heaters which are very hard to control heat when you need it.

When I read threads like this I count myself lucky that I never had to rent in my life. What a nasty piece of work the OP's landlord is.
