We've come across this in our home but have no idea what the lagging is made of. DH thinks possible asbestos but others think not!
Does anyone know?
TIA

Looks like hessian lagging. It's harmless, but doesn't have much insulation value.0

Thank you for that; we want to get rid of the pipes from there altogether but DH was reluctant to touch it until he knew what it was.0

Hessian lagging agreed.
Not asbestos so no need to panic.
Always best to check though.
If you come across any more get rid of it cos it was fairly useless but that was all that was available.0 -
usually called "hair felt". Not sure what sort of hair originally - horse? Still available and useful for tight corners where you can't get rigid insulation in.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Thank you all for sharing your knowledge. DH is much happier to deal with it now he knows what it is!0
