O/S Daily Thursday 14 November 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark and cold.

DH watching catchup tv, DS1 getting ready for work and I'm enjoying first cuppa whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner for DS1 was egg, bacon, sausage, fried mash, beans and mushrooms. DH and I had a packet curry with rice at lunchtime and was still too full to eat again later.

Today we're going to another town a few miles away that has a shopping outlet, which is nice, we'll get some lunch out.

Keep safe and well x

Morning all and huge thanks for all the good wishes.

I was indeed done very quickly. Yesterday was a mixture of no pain at all until the block wore off and then lots of pain until the meds came out.

Things are a tad rough though I know it’s short term. I’ve had to be catheterised and am wearing leg things which pump up and down. However the staff are great and I have no complaints.

My thoughts are with those still struggling - dumpling, how awful. I hope at Phoebe recovers soon.

    Happy Thursday.
  • Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC

I didn't get to post yesterday, I felt a bit meh when I got up, shivery, really tired, and thought I was coming down with something, but as the morning went on I felt ok, strange.

We were out most of the day anyway, went to an Arts centre nearby with 6 friends for lunch and a film, Green Book, it was excellent. I was glad to get home though, I was feeling cold again.

Hope Gers is ok, glad she's got her op over with.

Mehefin, I didn't realise that horses would be aggressive towards each other, mind, what I don't know about horses would fill encyclopaedias!!

Tru, I used to have a Bosch wm, I liked it, it lasted me about 10 years.

Dumpling, sorry to hear about Phoebe - glad you've got her home anyway.

Snoozer, hope the baby is ok.

My face is still bruised, but the bruises are fading now, I'm still putting on more make up than I normally would - it doesn't cover entirely but helps a bit.

Redriby your foot doesn't seem to be improving much, sounds very painful

I'm just tidying etc today, the place is a tip. Tomorrow I'm going away with a friend to Manchester and Chatsworth House Christmas markets, should be nice. As I've said before I can take or leave Christmas markets, but my friend loves them, and it will be ok. It's only one night away, and it's a change.

That cake looked lovely Taff. I don't bake half as much as I used to now there's no family here.

Hope everyone has as good a day as they can,

    Take care folks.
  • Just popped back to say hello Gers, nice to hear from you. The first few days after an op can be rough.

I liked the feeling of those leg things when I had them, and I found that watching my wee dripping into the bag was quite hypnotic, sorry if too much information!! Maybe I'm weird though.

Good wishes to you anyway Gers, hope you'll soon feel better.
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. No frost today so feels less cold.

GERS lovely to get your up-dater and I hope the catheter and leg pump thing are very short term. It doesn't sound much fun but good to hear the op was a success.

DUMPLING just read your post whilst catching up on yesterday's thread. Thoughts are with you and Phoebe, what a worry for you all. xx

Yesterday's Leeds trip was a bit of a disaster really. My intention was the big TKMaxx, followed by Homesense, where I was hopeful I would get lots of stuff under one roof, well ok 2 roofs but close together! Due to massive roadworks the bus detoured to the bus station and, as my legs can't cope with hills, I never got up there! Instead I went in the Trinity centre which was a bit soul destroying for folk like me who hate shopping!

Anyway I managed to tick off the remaining folk on my "other people" list and bought yet more stocking fillers for loved ones on the "immediate family" list! I have a feeling the main presents will be gift cards!

Today is grocery shopping with DS. After no shop last week I have quite a big list. I think probably Aldi.

Only eldest DGD is staying tonight so no big Pasta Bake to make! Middle DGD is off on a school trip to watch England at Wembley tonight and the coach isn't due back until around 2.30 a.m.!! I think there will be a lot of tired children to collect at that time!

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the growing list of poorlies, sad and convalescing among us. A wave to absent friends. Take care all xxx ps A slice of cake TAFF? I don't mind if I do! SNOOZER I am waiting with bated breath for the name! There are certainly lots of unusual ones around these days.

  • Good morning, it is very wet and windblown here, the sky looks really gloomy. So probably another day of not getting the leaves raked.

Gers it is good to hear from you, the catheterisation post surgery for me was not for long. I think I've had those pumpy things but again temporarily before compression stocking which had to be worn for weeks. Hope today is not too painful.

Dumpling, really sorry to hear about Phoebe and hope there is support available for her.

I have a list of indoor things to do today, not necessarily interesting ones.

Thinking of those who are struggling for whatever reason.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Wishing Gers a good recovery -I know how rough it is after an op but it is worth it in the end x
Dumpling - sorry to hear about your daughter. We have also had to deal with a suicide attempt and it was very frightening x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • Good morning all,

I wasn't on yesterday morning as I was actually at the ITV studios to be in the audience for Judge Rinder, believe it or not. A colleague of mine got tickets for another show and explained the process was easy and FREE, so I took a look to see if there were any shows I liked and I spotted the Judge. I don't get to watch him often, as I am in work obviously, but when I do, I am always impressed with his common sense and logical approach. I feel there's a lesson to be learned from each episode. So, I got a ticket. I actually got 2 but my colleague couldn't take the time off. It was good, I enjoyed it. I took a half day, despite the actual cases and TV time only being maybe 90 minutes long. I'll be on TV at the turn of the year haha!!

Given my half day out of the office, I stayed late in work to make up for it, till about 8pm. Had my dinner at my desk as I tried to power through. Home to do some bits on the laptop then bed.

No gym this morning. I'll go after work as I have football training tonight. risotto thing for dinner, new recipe so we'll see how that goes.

Gers - You seem in positive spirits. Hope you're on your feet again soon, literally.
TA - Well it sounds like you made the most of a bad situation. Good on you.

Morning all from a very wet mehefinland

Well it is persisting down here, and has been all night. The field is like an Olympic size sponge! Decide to keep the girls in to sop churning up the ground even more, so they are all happily munching on a haynet. Fairy was quite voluble, think she thought she should be going out. Tough!

Just heard a drip above the kitchen ceiling so that will need investigating at some time. The one downside of living in a bungalow is the huge roof , and loft space which so easily gets filled with junk. A major clear out is called for I think ( it can wait until my knee is better)

Mixed emotions yesterday as the post brought my 'invitation' to apply for my state pension. Must be getting old lol.

Mrs M struggling to get to grips with technology on the new to us car. It DOES have a lot of buttons and knobs: not at all what we were used to.

Sallydog is comatose on the settee, ventured outside to her necessaries and straight back in. Gave me a filthy look as if to say " you don't expect me to go out in THAT!"

    Hugs and spoons as always

    Morning all

Horrible here really damp and foggy and been raining most of the night.

I phoned the Dr yesterday as my foot was so painful he thinks I am suffering with cortisone flare which is quite normal apparently im just to rest and he thinks it will go in the next day or so and then 'should' be pain free (fingers crossed), so nothing much doing again today I have a small wash on the go and will put it in the TD when its finished.

Not sure whats for dinner I have some mince out so might do a cottage pie or lasagne will see what we fancy.

Gers I am so glad the op went well im sure the pain you are feeling now will be worth it in the long run xx

Dumpling I am so sorry to hear about Phoebe, poor girl is there some help available to her ? much love xx

Right off to get some breakfast have good days all xx
  • Morning All

Thought I would have a break from work and see how you are all doing!

Hope you're pain free this morning Gers, the pump stockings sound interesting!
Your foot still sounds painful RR, maybe the 'flare' will burn itself out.
What a rough time you're having Mehefin.

I'm hoping to go see Gers after work if everything's OK and then I must do some washing - DDs WM broke yesterday so I did two loads for her, mine has taken a back seat!

Have a good day, take care. XX
