Completely false credit reports

Hi,

I'm currently saving to buy a home in the next 3-5 years. I recently looked on ClearScore and Experian to see my credit score and was shocked to find that on both the information they hold is either false or inaccurate, despite updating my address, salary etc.

For context, I'm 25, never been in debt, always paid bills on time, been putting in money monthly to my Help-to-Buy ISA for a number of years, and have been using my credit card regularly and always paying in full. I am also on the electoral register and have kept my address up-to-date.

On clearscore, the only thing stated is that I was banking with HSBC until 2014 with no data afterwards. I was banking with another bank at the time and changed bank again about a year ago. My score here is 375 odd?

On experian, my score is 999 yet it doesn't have any information on me bank/ credit card wise, and updating my personal details, address etc has no effect. I spoke to my current bank who state that they have been updating Experian regularly regarding my credit card.

I really don't want to pay out to speak to someone at Experian and Clearscore only has an email address.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Scores and ratings aren’t used by lenders so ignore them just like a lender would.

What address shows as your current address on your credit files?

Credit scores arent seen by lenders, your history is what lenders see.

Lenders dont have to report to the reference agencies.

    You tried Transunion ?
  • No need to pay.

Just query any anomalies with the three CRAs and don't forget to ignore the scores. You just need any data there to be correct. Not all providers report to all CRAs.
  • Hi Adrian456 and welcome to the forum :)

If it were me, I would get my three Statutory credit reports direct from Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. They are the reports that lenders see, and they are the ones that need to be accurate.
I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

    I love my job

  • To query incorrect information do I need to send over bank statements or something?
  • Not at all. You just dispute the information and they will check with the provider to determine if it's accurate.
  • Thanks Zx81, I'm completely new to all this.

Not reporting data isn't an offence. As long as they are not reporting incorrect information then they can carry on as they wish.
