Tonight attempted to bleed a radiator that was tepid, but accidentally drained ALL the water out of the radiator. We have a combi boiler - what do we do??

Top the pressure up at the boiler and bleed the rad.
Not sure how you emptied a radiator via a bleed pin though??0 -
I just turned it with a radiator key and turned it too far... the pin in the radiator came out so water was flying out everywhere. We only got it to stop when it seemed like all the water had come out of the radiator and we could put the pin back in and tighten. Have refilled at boiler but now boiler is making strange noises and pressure is at zero.0

You probably just drained all the pressure out the system so not enough water left to finish the bleeding.
Top up the pressure to just over 1 bar and bleed again. You will probably have to bleed all the radiators now. When done top the system to about 1.2 bar.
Just seen the above, top the boiler up using the filling loop under the boiler, don't leave the filling loop open.0 -
Upon looking again we have found that the bleeding valve is at the top of the radiator... the valve we undid and all the water came from was at the bottom??0

You opened a drain valveBut do the above, turn on heating and turn up all radiators, the air will find it's way out of the system into the top of the radiators, bleed (from the top) any Rads that remain cold at the top

That was the drain valve, used to empty all the water out of the system.
If the system needs a refill (and not just a top-up), then you should be putting corrosion inhibitor back into the system, not just water. If you don't, the boiler or radiators will eventually start leaking. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
