Oven Temprature

Hi

I hope someone can answer this and I'm unsure if this is in the right Forum...

We have a double oven, the bottom is the main one and the upper is a small oven and a grill combined.

HOW HOT should the upper oven get (when not turned on) when the lower oven is in use??

The reason for asking is that it gets so hot that my partner burnt her hand in the upper oven last week, when it wasn't on but the lower one was.

In addition there is loads of condensation coming out the lower oven when its cooking as little as a couple of chicken breasts and there is a lot of heat coming out of the side of the door and hitting the cupboard door adjacent to it.

Been in touch with the manufacturer who insist this is normal. But this doesn't seem right.

Can anyone advise?

Sounds like you have a faulty seal in the lower oven. When the lower oven is on and door closed put you hand near, but not touching the oven, and see if you are getting more than residual head on your hand.

With the door closed an oven would be slightly warm keeping the heat in, if the seal is away the heat will be higher with it escaping the oven. Heat rises so the first thing to get hot will be the top oven.

I'm not at home at the moment but I'm almost certain the glass at the front gets red hot, is this right
  • Could be worth getting a cooking thermometer and check if the thermostat is working correctly. If the thermostat is "stuck" then the oven will continue to heat and not be regulated.

No ... there should be an inner heat shield to prevent the outer glass getting too hot.

I had the oven on 180 degrees last night and the top of the glass on the door was so hot I couldn't put my hand on it for more than a few seconds, but the bottom of the glass was a lot cooler

There not very good at dealing with.

I've got a thermometer to take home to record the heat the front of the door is reaching and the heat in the top oven.

Also above the top oven where the control knobs are for the ovens gets red hot

Sounds like door deal needs replacing. If it's not under warranty they are not expensive or difficult to fit
