Energy saving club switch Ovo to Eon

My energy switch to Eon went through on 1st November 2019. I have received a final gas statement but not electricity yet. I had an email from Ovo last night saying that due to technical difficulties my direct debit was not taken on the 12th November but would be taken on 15th instead. As of 1st November I am no longer their customer. Now I have not cancelled the direct debit because I have a large credit to come back (which I had allowed to build up to cover Winter consumption).
I have at last managed to speak to Ovo who confirm that they were taking the payment! Not now they're not! They have cancelled the Direct Debit and advise that providing they have taken a payment within 6 months they can refund the money to the bank account used for the DD payments. Still have to wait 4-6 weeks from the switch date for the final statement & another 3-5 working days after that for the refund! Really not good enough. Just thought I would warn others.

Hello Bobstheword and thank you for joining us.

We'll send our opening meter readings to Ovo so they can use the same ones to close their account. This stops the same energy from being charged twice.

These readings go through a third party (Data Collector) who checks they're in line with past readings held for the property. Sometimes the Data Collector will make a change and both suppliers need to use the amended readings to open/close their respective accounts.

Once all is through, please make sure our opening readings are the same as those used by Ovo to close their account.

Thanks again for joining us Bobstheword and welcome to E.ON.

Cancel your DD immediately. It won't stop your credit being refunded.
  • I cancelled the DD due on 15th November. (Thanks Gerry). I received my final electricity statement the following day. Had the final gas statement on 5th November. Now this morning I have had an email from Ovo telling me to reinstate my direct debit immediately. Then if you are leaving us and have a credit it will be returned within 14 working days! I was told 3-5 working days of last statement being received.

I logged onto Eon 2 days ago to check the final readings match and I cannot see the opening meter readings on my Eon account. Just a message to say they will contact me in January to request meter readings. When I received the email from Eon to submit my opening meter readings I kept getting a message "Oops something went wrong. Please try again later" as a result I submitted several readings over 3 different days. The readings used to close the Ovo accounts seem to be from different days. I don't want to wait until January to find out there has been an error. Now I cannot get on the Eon site at all.

    Yeah, "Thanks Gerry"

Its 10 working days, which is usually 14 calendar days.
But your refund may be delayed as you need to reinstate the cancelled mandate.

Have fun trying to get your bank to reinstate the mandate :rotfl:

If Ovo cannot promptly refund your large credit balance, either by sending you a cheque or by bank transfer (asking for your bank details again if necessary), then their accounting system is clearly not fit for purpose.

I'm sorry for the difficulties you've come across with our website Bobstheword. We've had a few issues over recent days which have now been fixed.

Depending on where we're at with your switch, there might be some parts of our online services you're unable to use right now. This is because we're waiting for various pieces of information from the previous supplier and certain industry third parties like the energy distributors, meter operators/readers and the national databases.

Don't worry, this won't affect the date we started supplying. This will be as advised. It's just that it takes a bit longer before the online part is fully up and running. Once all this information's through, you'll be able to use all our online services including the Direct Debit Manager and Real Time Billing.

In the meantime, please contact us as tk47 suggests and we'll be happy to tell you where we're at and the readings we've opened your account to.

    Thanks Bobstheword.

I had this too, Bobstheword. It seems Eon's website takes a while to emit any useful information which, I suppose, is understandable to an extent but I did not like not being able to submit meter readings.
