Single Trip Travel Insurance not Originating in UK

Hi, does anybody know what the rules are on single trip policies when the trip doesn't start from the UK.

To put it in perspective, I currently have a backpacking policy for worldwide excluding USA and am traveling in South America. Due to finding a couple of great deals, I have decided to visit some relatives in the US for a week before returning home to the UK (Saved around £250 VS flighing straight back to the UK!!).

Thus I now need to insurance for just that one week in the US. Can I just buy any policy, or do I need somthing different(and if so any recommendations)?

A standard UK travel policy will not cover you as they all state you have to depart from UK.
Other replies such as getting a quote from your existing insurer would seem the best way forward.

I know of two companies who offer what you need: True Traveller and Nomads.

They are not cheap, and be very aware of the exclusions.
