Trouble is I haven't paid it to reclaim it... can I 'claim' to reduce debt amount?

I'd like to reduce the amount I owe to my creditors by 'reclaiming' the charges levied so far - can I do this as technically they have not been paid to reclaim?
If so, should I use the same wording in the letters or should I change the work 'paid' to 'levied', or fashion a completely different letter altogether?
Anyone know?

Who have not been paid? To reclaim what? What charges are you wanting to reclaim?0

Hi Smasher - basically the debt I owe to both banks and credit cards has doubled over the last 5 years due to the charges that have been added to the original amount borrowed.
Now that I am in a position to start paying my debt back, I want to pay what I owe minus the charges - by identifying how much of the current debt consists of charges and paying back the difference instead of identifying the difference and asking for a refund from the bank/cards. I hope this makes sense?! Thanks for your interest0 -
Yes it makes sense. First then, you need to find out exactly how much they have applied in charges.0

Do you think I should do this using the template letters as they are - to obtain charge info or past statements from my creditors - or do you think I should change the words so that the letter acknowledges the fact that the charges have not been paid and are still outstanding?

Just use the standard subject access request.0
