Help needed - mouldy walls:eek:
I hope this is the right place to ask (sorry if it is not)
As the colder (damper) weather is descending I have noticed some black mould spots starting to gather on the paintwork of north facing exterior walls, (especially behind the furniture). Can anyone please advise which is the best way to permanently get rid of this before it becomes a major problem? Have tried to find products on the internet, but mopst seem to be for builders (i.e. large bulk quantities).
Thankyou

1. Ensure that there is a decent gap between furniture and wall so as to allow air to circulate
2. Use a dehumidifier
3. Increase the ventilation i.e. open the windows when it's not too bitter outside
4. Have your heating on for longer - perhaps at a lower temp so as to offset the cost.
Obviously don't do 3 when you're using 2 or 4.Live long and prosper0 -

Could you please advise me what is the best thing to use to wash the walls down with?

I'm not too sure on that to be honest so hang fire for someone else to chime in here.
I do use household bleach, nothing special just your cheap ASDA or Tesco variety, before white washing our exterior walls so you could try that on a small inconspicuous area.Live long and prosper0 -
Dettox mould and mildew remover is very good for this.0

We've got a wall that is prone to mould and every six months or so I shift the furniture and wipe the wall down with a 50/50 solution of water and bleach, then rinse with clean water - obviously this is dependent on your wall covering! We've just got painted surfaces which cope quite well with the bleach. The last time I did this I used neat tea tree oil to wipe over the cleaned surfaces. Not sure whether it'll work, but I decided it was worth a try as I believe it's anti-fungal (among other things...)
