O/S Daily Tuesday 12 November 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Jackie - you sound fed up, but sounds like you're being looked after by your lovely family, take it steady x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, damp underfoot and cold.
DH watching catchup tv, DS1 gone to work and I'm enjoying a cuppa whilst on here, I'll be going for a shower shortly.
Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg - my fish was baked fish. Today we have hairdresser coming so dinner will be a bit late but that's fine as we're both off so a later meal is not a problem.
We're heading out in a while, we'll visit DH's grandfather then call in to the local town on the way back (as we have to come past it to get home) and I'll make a start on the xmas shopping if I see anything that's suitable. We're shopping properly tomorrow at a bigger town in the opposite direction, I want to get it pretty much done over the next few days as nothing else has been done yet.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, sounds like you're getting organised.
It's cold, wet and windy here. I have a big jumper on as it was really cold in school yesterday, I had a vest, long sleeved top, cardigan and school cardigan on!
Oh dear tru, why do these relations insist on butting in?
Well done dumpling!
Hope you're all organised now Gers.
Healing hugs to the tumblers.
Meeting a friend after work for something to eat, always enjoy a catch up and I don't usually say a word she talks so much!
Happy Tuesday, take care. XX0 -
Morning :hello:
snoozer That's good news, I bet they couldn't wait to get home! I hope the assessment goes well x I hope Steve is feeling better too x
redruby I hope you get your foot sorted. Mr tru has what sounds like the same thing, it's been going on for ages and has had x-rays, injections and an MRI. He'd been sent to three different hospitals and had eight appointments! Different people were saying different things – this bone, that bone, tendon, muscle, plantar fasciitis or maybe not - and eventually they sent him to a private hospital (still under NHS so it's free) where the doc was fab, said it's one of only two things and he's trying the most likely thing first. I can't remember what it's called – sorry! - but he's treating a tendon at the moment. He was given an injection in a different place on his foot and so far, so good. I'll check with mr tru and let you know what's what x
dumpling Great news! I'm glad you're doing so well
JackieO I hope you're OK, I know you like to be busy so this must be maddening for you. I hope you have good news from the clinic and get back to normal ASAP x
The hospital didn't have FIL's paperwork ready when they said they would, so BIL2 contacted them later on. They said they suspected asbestosis and the coroner will make a decision on whether or not to do a post mortem. There was no mention of this when he was alive so I'm not sure why it's come up now. So everything's on hold at the moment.
SIL seems to have crawled back under her rock for now.
We put the cash stashes together and there's almost £3000. Is this an age thing, or a man thing? lol
Mr tru is back to work today. He was worried about not being around, but everything that needed doing immediately is done so we can carry on as normal for a bit. He'll still worry though, I bet he rings at least once to make sure everything's OK!
The washing machine isn't starting at all now, it has a digital display and it's showing the right times/temps when I select all the different washes, but won't start. I've checked the usual things but had no luck. I'm going to have to pull it out and get behind it to check pipes, it's in what used to be a larder so it's a small skinny room – I can just about manage to squeeze myself between the machine and the wall. I just hope that once I've got round the back, I'll be able to get out again
The shopping is coming this morning, I added lots of chocolate just before the cut off time last night so I'm looking forward to that, lol. By the time I've sorted that, walked Scamp and hopefully got a load going in the machine, it'll be lunchtime. I'm going to make something nice (no idea what yet) and take my time with it. This afternoon I'll be double-checking FIL's bills and ringing the companies to cancel things. And maybe ordering a new washing machine

Good morning everyone. Thanks for starting us off nmlc.
I'm trying hard to stay in bed a little bit longer, really. Today will be full on.
New cleaner is starting today and then there's a friend coming to move my bedside table and bed. Then we're going out to do some last minute shipping for DM which involves three different shops. He's going to be driving my car. Then after that DM wants a shower and that involves a lot of preparation and towels! My room needs a good old tidy with some stuff put higher up.
This time tomorrow I'll be in a fetching hospital gown waiting for the spinal injection and happy drug. The first book in my new series is already interesting so I'm relieved.
Jackie - you are being well looked after though I can well understand your frustrations.
My thoughts are with the poorly and struggling and those who are flooded out. Happy Tuesday to all.0 -
Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC.
Hope you get those plumbing problems sorted out.
Jackie sorry to hear your shoulder has seized up, wonder what they can do to help, and get it mobile again.
Damp and chilly here, yesterday was quite nice, a cold wind got up though.
Tru, a death seems to bring out the worst in people sadly, just at a time when you don't need extra hassle.
Snoozer glad the baby is home, and Laura has got into the swing of breast feeding.
Gers, don't lose too much weight, are you low carbing, or generally cutting down?
Pleased you are more mobile Dumpling, hope you are in good spirits.
Redruby, look after your foot and don't go back to work too soon.
Nanny I want to go to Trago, we don't have it here !!
I got my glasses adjusted yesterday, they got a bit twisted when I fell. I'm surprised they didn't break. My face is turning green in places now, interesting.
I spoke to Ds1 in Oz just after 6am our time. we are worried for them because they are quite near bushfires, and are ready to leave if they have to. He said things are ok at the moment, hoping it doesn't change for the worse. They were advised to keep the children at home in case they had to leave the house, then at least they had them with them iyswim.
He rang yesterday to say they are planning to visit next year, great news - now all the grandchildren can meet in the flesh, they've only seen each other on the screen!!
Today Dgs will be here for his usual visit, and Dh is taking the car for an airbag check, it's been recalled.
Dgd enjoyed her cardmaking last night and has made 3 so far, 2 of them for family dogs!
I'm swithering about going to tai Chi, there's no reason why I shouldn't go really, I suppose once I get my arris moving I'll be ok.
Hope everyone has a good day, take care folks0 -
Tru, I think it's an age thing, dad had money stashed all over (I'm talking serious cash) and an old aunt used old toilet roll tubes to store notes which were thrown out by a carer!
Gers, my best wishes for tomorrow, I hope it all goes smoothly.
Baby update, still no name but he's a hungry little tike, poor Laura was up most of the night. He's hardly lost any of his birthweight. He's very cute though.
We're driving up to Yorkshire today for a few days, sister-in-law will join us and we're going to see Kiki Dee on Friday. I don' feel at all organised but We've done the journey so often it will all fall into place.0 -
Good morning folks,
Folks is a term I'm considering using more often. It feels gentle and PC.
I left work yesterday sharpish so I could grab some dinner before heading back out to yoga however when I got out the lift of my flat and turned to go to my front door, there was a large couch squeezed in the little cove me and my neighbour share. Out from behind it appears my neighbour asking for help as she's stuck and had been since this morning when it was delivered and the delivery guy just left her to it! So we managed to release the couch and given the acute angle and size of the couch, it wasn't going to fit in her flat. Her parents arrived and they agreed to take it, so I helped them down the 3 flights of stairs and into their car. An hours worth of work but I really didn't mind, that's what neighbours are for. This meant I was late for yoga but I still went to the gym for a quick run, came home for a bath, read my book and bed.
Eventually got up this morning and forced myself to the gym to put in a few more miles on the treadmill and bike. No plans this evening which is nice, not too sure what I'll get up to. I've a new chicken mozzarella recipe to try, thankfully I remembered to take a breast out the freezer.
Scarlet - Good news about their visit. Not so much about the bushfires!0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Flying visit off me. DGDs in sloth mode this morning and wound me up from the word go! DD's bf picked them up about 8.00 for the school drop so all now peaceful. A quick tidy up to do, both on the house and me! Then it's my Tuesday meet up with my buddy for coffees, chatting and lunch.
It's wet and windy here but feels less cold so a slight bonus.
TRU I hope today is a more peaceful one with no SILs interfering. It's a stressful enough time as it is without that. A lady not far from me died last February and the house is still as she left it. Apparently her 3 offspring are at loggerheads over the will. For reasons only known to her it wasn't equal shares and the dispute is ongoing.
JACKIE so sorry to read you are still suffering. Fingers crossed you soon start to feel more yourself.
Must dash, ((HUGS)) for all in need/want and take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.
JackieO, sorry to read about your should, Derbyshire, you must be really fed up by now.
Snoozer, it took us a couple of weeks to settle on our son's name.
Gers I hope today flies by and soon you will be recuperating.
Speky your poor neighbour, how long was she stuck? I bet she was cold.
I spent most of yesterday fighting tiredness and feeling very cold. I've had a better night though with very strange dreams and feel a bit more human. The washing machine is on the go, a load of towels as it looks fine. My weather app has failed for the past few days. I mostly use a tablet and on my phone, the home screen tells me what the weather is like right now - we'll I don't need that, I can tell by looking outside, what I want is a prediction.
I've had 3 cups of tea and some toast. I'm about to sort out yesterday's washing and then start clearing up yesterday's mess, do some work and stuff.
Hope everyone has as good a day as possible.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny here but very cold, I have put a small wash on and the only other thing I will do is transfer it to the TD later, I slept very well but my foot is very sore this morning.
TRU I would be interested to know what Mr Tru's diagnosis is, my Dr did say yesterday that the next step (if this doesnt work) would be a hospital visit for another jab under ultrasound, fingers crossed this helps though !
Also when my nan died my dad found over £30K stashed all over her house, they had to rip the house apart looking for it, it was under carpets and sewn into curtains, they still dont know if they got it all !!!
I will need to prep dinner which will be a chicken and chorizio bake thing but this takes minutes and I will put it in the fridge for cooking later, the rest of the day will be films and log burners, I managed two films yesterday before falling asleep !!
Jackie, ouch poor you ! please take it easy and let your lovely family look after you xx
Snoozer glad baby no name is doing so well xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all from a sunny, cold and very windy mehefinland
For those of you who read my infrequent drivel the saga continues:
New mare arrived Wednesday last; a lovely placid thorobred, slightly bigger than Scoobymare. So we had the squeals over the door and the whizzing around the stables etc for a while and then they started to settle down with their feed.
So next morning we let them out into the field and the fun began!! Its not unusual to have a bit of argy bargy when you introduce new stock but this turned into a full scale kicking match ( with me in the middle). Eventually managed to separate them after been knocked over and narrowly missing being stamped on by 1/2 tonne of excited horse, and Scooby and Fairy belted off , newmare wandered back into the barn streaming blood. ( incidentally I am a also a member of the black and blue club - my knee is very pretty lol)
Panic stations!!!
She has blood spurting from a blood vessel on her hind leg and is bleeding from her vulva too - ouch. Did the usual stuff- dressing on and a tight bandage etc and it was still pouring out. So another one and so on, In the meantime we have got her into a stable and tried to calm her down. A call to our vets and I must complement them on the speed in which they responded - they were with us within the hour .
Anyway 2 hours, 12 staples and a a lot of sutures later the leg wound is ok, and the damaged skin on her ladybits has been put back in the right place. Vet and us covered with blood and who knows what else.
Now its the ongoing bit of antibiotics and cleansing etc for the next 10 day or so until the stiches come out. Vet came again yesterday to check on her and is very pleased with how everything is healing, She is still very bruised on her back end though IYKWIM, and the vet reckoned she must have taken a full blow there, poor thing.
So Fairy is now in the centre box and Scooby down the far end so they cannot have another go at each other over the wall.
To top it all we came home to the vets bill for poor old Bruisemare.
They say things go in threes - well number two was the car failed its MOtT and was going to cost mega bucks to fix - it was 20 yrs old and we had had it ages, So that meant looking for another pdq. Fortunately a rather nice motor came into a local garage and after much digging into pockets ( and a substantial loan) we are the new owners
And then the TV went phut!!!Grrrr
Anyway, that's my woes for now. Hugs and spoons to those in need as always.
TRu my Mum was exactly the same with money - it was in little parcels all over the house. I think in dated back to wartime and the austerity years when you tucked a little away each week for the gas/electric etc, and she never stopped doing it.
