Or via some Tesco stores. I signed up last night, and they will be there today. Have seen that other Tesco stores are doing this too, but perhaps you could phone the stores to ask.

I thought it was being withdrawn from the sales peoples tablet PC's overnight last night so I'd reiterate the suggestion of catnap to check first particularly if you're making a special journey.

I spoke to EON late yesterday (1st Aug) and they will still offering the Oct 2009 cap to people ringing, if they have withdrawn the cap this morning I guess a price increase is imminent. The Oct 2009 means for me an increase of 10.5% for Elec and 16.29% for Gas so I hope it was worth it!
• As ive missed the capped price I think my next best option would be staywarm which is fixed for a year . I was going to do this a while ago but it my boy friend who is over 60 ( me im still so young and lovley ;) ) the problem is that all the bills are in my name for everything - what evidence do they ask for to prove that someone is at that address or do they just take your word for it. I dont want to apply and be turned down if i havent got the right paperwork and if i ring and ask it may look a bit strange.
Perhaps I could get him to buy the TV licence in his name which is due this week ? would that be enough ?
At least if im on the stay warm i could budget as it would be fixed price.
Thank you
• i have found a great place to get a quote and the service is first class. click the tab for electric and gas quotes and see if you can save as much as me. new compant with low prices are taking on the big boys in the market and how can they offer these prices its amazing, the good news is that you can leave when you like but i have been looking for a better deal and i cannot find one yet try www.storeplus.co.uk/?exref=746906 visit and have a look at the utility part of the site . this is a great tool and everyone should at least take a look as you can save a lot.

:jWent to a capped Npower deal the other day, then double checked the figures! Shocked when I learnt that the new cap was to cost me 73% more for gas and 38% more for electric, this was over 10months. I was and still am with Scottish hydro as I called Npower within the 14 days to cancel the capped rate, which would have cost me an extra fortune. Sometimes better to stay where you are, check all the figures as you may be very supprised!

Hi all,

I have read this post and it seems that there are a lot of options for everyone to switch (depending on their circumstances). Now I need some help.

Just received my Electricity and Gas bill for the past 145 days and now my monthly bill has gone up to £100.

Breakdown

Electricity
2370@8.415 - 199.44
145 days @12.390 - 17.97
Total - £217.41

Gas
4840@2,771 - 134.12
141 days @12.040 - 16.98
IGT charge - 141 days@10.96 - 15.45
Total £166.55

and I got a discount of £3.92.

I have had a look on uSwitch and nPower had the best offer

Unit prices

Gas 5.678p per kWh 1.985p per kWh above 4572 kWh p.aElectricity 23.75p per kWh 7.62p per kWh above 728 kWh p.a Any suggestions on switching and helping me save some money :T

I wonder if all this hyped up, emotional, frantic energy rate capping is not going to backfire on folks?

What disappoints me about all this hype about capping energy rates is that information is not being given about what happens if rates start to come down again?

Capped energy rates are more expensive and breaking those agreements will result in penalties to get out of that contract.

Oil prices are already coming down again in the USA and here in the UK the price of oil is linked to the cost of natural gas. The price of oil has averaged $20.00 per barrel for the past 60 years and now it's up to $120.00 per barrel, and I believe these price levels are unsustainable.

However, folks need to realize why these oil prices are high. Terrorism of 9/11 sent the cost of oil soaring and then the war in Iraq pushed it even higher. War caused this same thing to happen in the 1970's with the Yom Kippur war and Iran/Iraq war which is again happening in 2007.

This can't last forever, and when things calm down, oil prices will settle back to normal levels, and natural gas prices will follow since they are both pegged together.

My worry is that too many people are rushing to cap energy rates before really knowing the contract they are signing and being fully informed.
