Beware if you are with one of the major energy suppliers and you are thinking of switching energy supply's if you have qualified for this years "Warm Home Discount" of £120 you may lose the discount if you switch to a smaller supplier

I was in the process of switching from British Gas to Ovo Energy but learned that I would lose the discount if I switched so have delayed the switch until April so as not to lose the discount

not sure about other suppliers but British Gas has a qualifying period

Great post! Very glad I came here first. I was in the just about to swap to NPower for the vouchers/cashback through simplyswitch. We should qualify for the discount through BG as we have a child under 5.

One question. We're already slightly in credit on the account. If we switch after the cashback has been paid will they reimburse it to a bank account or is there some smallprint that prevents this?

providing that you make the switch after the qualifying period

if they pay you earlier than march they may be justified in taking the money back as you will have broken the qualifying agreement

    the agreement is here

  • Avoid e.on like the plague.
A warning to anyone wishing to switch energy suppliers, should you value any hard earned penny, please stay away from E.ON. As a pre-paid customer, i have only been with E.ON for 6 weeks. In the 6 weeks, E.ON have taken more than £210 in electricity top up for a one bedroomed flat with just one occupier. I have spent countless hours on the phone refuting this and trying to get them to explain how that is possible when i am hardly ever in my flat being a full time university student.

Clearly, the meter must be faulty but they refuse to get an engineer to come and look at it. This amount is extortionate and worse yet having to be put on hold for over 30 mins before i get any help/ or NONE for that matter from E.On Customer services. I am now switching to EDF Energy as any other energy supplier must be much better and more helpful than them.

Can i also add here very importantly that between 6pm last night and 9 am this morning, E.ON claim that i am £18.20 in DEBT. So in the time that i have been in my flat between 6pm on a sunday and 9am on a Monday morning i have used up £18.20 worth of electricity. Does this sound normal????

PLEASE AVOID E.ON!!!!!!! You will be saving yourself a lot of time and money not to mention High Blood Pressure!!!

To resolve your issue send an email to the EON Chief Executive, Paul Golby as listed at www dot ceoemail dot com (for some odd reason a website that this forum does not seem keen for people to publish a direct link to).

Whatever you do don't continue to waste your time dealing with the human detritus at the bottom of the EON food chain in customer services.
  • Hi,

Thank You for this helpful thread, and to Martin for the email!

I'm with NPower, for Electric only, and on their 'Spreading Warmth' Economy 7 Tariff.

I've never been able to understand their bills, and due to a debt problem, I've applied to NPower's 'Energy Trust' for a grant.

On their letter, NPower sate "Your prices are guaranteed to be cheaper than or match our lowest enduring tariff prices in your area."

"If you have a credit meter you'll pay a reduced rate compared to NPower's standard prices, which will ensure you receive the benefit of the tariff on each unit of energy you use."

    Talk about waffle!

I have a feeling that an online / NPower's Go Fix 8 tariff, may well turn out to be cheaper than my Spreading Warmth tariff.

However, I don't have my most recent bill with me, as I had to send it into NPower's Energy Trust for my grant application.

Perhaps I'm better off staying put on the Spreading Warmth tariff for now, while they assess my grant application, but I can't help thinking that I'm not on the cheapest tariff.

    What do you guys think?

    Many Thanks.
  • PS -

How do I find out if I'm eligible for the £120 discount from NPower?

    Thanks.

OH is eyeing the NPower Football tariff as, as an Arsenal fan, 2 tickets are worth at least £70 (cheapest ticket at Arsenal for lower category is £35). However do NPower cough up the footie tickets and how long does it take? thanks

I think you'll find NPower sponsor the Football League and not the Premier League so I don't think Arsenal tickets would qualify. I'm pretty sure you'll have to pick one of the teams from the Championship to League 2.
  • I have been looking at the comparison sites and they are giving vastly different results from the same data - KwH.

MoneySupermarket gives a saving of £32, Simply Switch £39, USwitch £165 and Which? Switch £164 - all for the same NPower Tariff.

Is this a common problem when trying to compare?
