Started the switch process from Npower to Scottish Power on Saturday 9th Nov .But after reading negative comments about SP and Smart meters I decided I don't want switch to go ahead.

Contact the company you wanted to switch to and tell them you want to cancel.. as long as you're in the 14 day cancellation period you should be fine..keep a note of when you contacted them to cancel just in case.0

Essmum is bang on. Follow that advice. Keep notes of everything, screen grab if on chats, or email to yourself. If you set up a DD cancel it..so long as you are the 14 day window.
