Why did you accept delivery of a wardrobe size box when all you ordered was a chair?

Anyone who buy from Amazon on a regular basis would know that they are far from frugal or environmentally friendly when it comes to packing materials.
My last purchase from them was a cat litter tray. Despite this coming in two parts (it's a covered tray) and the two parts were placed one inside the other, the box it came in only just fitted through a door. It was about 4 times the size it needed to be and was packed with paper to fill it up.

For all the OP knew, the chair may have been in parts for self assembly and the seat, back and base may have been in different boxes inside the main box.

I would of opened the box before I accepted delivery if as you say you suspected it wasn't right.

There aren't many (if any)couriers that would allow you to open a package before signing for it.

    Update: Another no show collection

Called Amazon again and asked to elevate it, eventually got put on to a !!!!ed off guy who tried to berate me into paying for my own courier to return it. Asked if we can elevate it further and he said "there is no way".

I asked him if he would contact the courier to look into the no-shows, and he brushed over it, told me he had arranged a collection each day for the rest of the working week then ended the call.

I know you're annoyed, and rightly so, but you want your chair and presumably want rid of this giant box you have to store, so can you just find a way to make it work? Do you have a neighbour that's home all day perhaps? Give them a spare key to yours, give the courier their address and tell them to go and ask to be let in. You shouldn't have to do it, but it might be the easiest way to get things sorted. Then you can decide whether you want to shop with the same seller again, or Amazon.

I've filled the fridge with snacks and convinced my younger sibling to be at mine during the day this week, now we just need them to actually show up! :p

Amazon have said they won't try to redeliver or retrieve the chair, they will only refund. I've already bought a new one, funny enough I went with Amazon over this originally because I thought it would be faster/prime delivery!

Remember this is a third party seller you are dealing with, it is them who will have packed the box incorrectly regardless of it being "fulfilled by Amazon".

It always pays to think twice and do some research before purchasing from third parties on Amazon. It would be interesting to see what feedback other customers have given this seller, for instance...

Fulfilled by Amazon orders are not packed by the 3rd party.
Amazon store the goods and then pack and ship as required.

Seems weird that expensive photographic equipment was sent instead of a chair, then. The picking location must have been completely wrong as well as the barcode on the outside of the item. Not a mistake I'd expect from an Amazon warehouse.

However good a computerised system is, it's only as good as the data entered and mistakes can happen anywhere.

Whatever went wrong, it is the case that orders that are fulfilled by Amazon, are also packed by Amazon before being dispatched.

You sell it, we deliver it
With FBA, you store your products in our fulfilment centres, and we pick, pack and deliver your orders to the customer. You don’t have to worry about fulfilling each order as it comes in because we do it for you using Amazon’s world-class fulfilment network.

The issue is you can't just keep the items, they remain Amazons property regardless of their incompetence. I'd also ignore some of the advice here, you have a duty to be reasonable and saying "you can only pick it up between 2-3 on a sunday afternoon is not reasonable.

    .
    You have to be joking
My understanding is that they have not turned up 4 times when they said they would.
How many more times do you think the OP should wait in to be considered reasonable?
There is no reason what so ever why the courier firm cannot plan this collection first pickup of a morning except the vendor does not want to pay which is at the OP'S expense
  • OP...... give up

If you have a spare room or garage to put the item in then stop contacting them for collection then wait and see
