Are estate agents allowed to pass contact details to mortgage companies without consent?

Just to conclude the thread. I decided in the end not to complain, I'm still in the process of finding a suitable house and I am not sure if I will need to get in touch with that estate agent. Some houses we've looked at are only marketed through that agent so I don't want to burn any bridges.
Once I've bought a house, I'll then revisit if it's worth complaining but I probably won't given how stale it would have gotten. I normally try to do things when they are fresh but in reality, I don't think anything will happen from this. Doesn't make it right what the estate agent did though.0 -
Just adding my measly two cents - I've got a property on the market at the moment, and i'd be pretty p!ssed if my estate agent was showing strangers around without confirming details and speaking to them to understand their circumstances. It's standard practice for (good) estate agents.
I'd also be p!ssed at my details being passed on, if I was adamant i'd not consented.
Think you're right not to complain though. No harm done, just move on.0 -

I'm not suggesting estate agents shouldn't check buyers out before a viewing but of the numerous estate agents I've been in touch with, only this one asked for my address. And there was nothing they did to verify the address was accurate, so what's the point of asking for that?
I have no issue giving my phone number or explaining my buying situation but I see no reason for them to have my address, especially when they do no verification with it and I could easily give them a made up address.0
