Aqua payment requested query

Hi all :)

So I recently opened an aqua reward credit card and spent £184.65 on it this month. I repaid the balance in full before the statement due date. The "payment requested" now reads £5 and my "contractual minimum payment" now reads £0. Spending limit is back up to the normal £450 which is my credit limit. Just wanted to check I've done this right why is payment requested £5? I did have a direct debit set up but I've cancelled it now just incase they try to take anything without permission. Prefer paying manually anyway.

Thanks :)

  • It is just letting you know that £5 is the minimum contractual payment due for that statement period. If you have already paid the statemented balance in full before the due date, then you can ignore it. :)

I would urge you to maintain your Direct Debit, as it ensures your minimum contractual payment will always be made on time. :)

  • Thank you for the quick response :) That makes sense, although the phrasing of "payment requested £5, this is made up of contractual minimum payment of £0" is a bit confusing but I'll take your word for it :) Thank you!

One of my cards does the same, even though I have a direct debit set to pay the full balance.
  • Yep exactly, that's why I'm confused. Maybe it's just slow to update, can't see them charging me anything and I'd ask why if they try to. What has your card provider done have they ever charged you extra when you've paid the full balance?
  • So long as you pay the balance in full then you won't be charged anything (unless you've got one of those cards that charges an annual/monthly fee, but they are the exception rather than the rule).

As a slight aside, you're better off to wait until the statement arrives then pay the balance in full. If you pay early, then you're missing out on the benefit of building up a positive credit history. Granted, paying early allows you to spend more on your card per month than your limit (e.g. spend £450, pay it off, spend another £450), but in general it's best to wait for the statement then pay in full.
