I am buying a house - how do I know which supplier to choose?

Thanks loobylou2,
The info you have given is really helpful. I am hoping to get a new boiler and central heating (it currently doesn't have central heating) and I am hoping to get cavity wall insulation. I have been on the energy grant search to find out what grants and discounts are available.
So hopefully, these measures will save me some money in the long run...
Thanks

Hi Salbot,
Also bear in mind that you can qualify for free cavity wall insulation, loft insulation etc if you claim certain benefits (although some are means tested)
If you fall below the 10% line for fuel poverty (you spend over 10% of your income on gas & elec) you can get extra help from your Supplier. Some are even introducing %'s off their tariffs.
Worth noting that the recognised average is 3300Kwh elec 20500Kwh gas so BGas must be working on a higher average to reflect what they believe to be more realistic per Lou above.
You really won't know until you are in there. The only real way to know for any house (because there is really no such thing as an average in reality) is to monitor your consumption over a period. Also, take readings at least every quarter over a year and then by year 2, you will have a really good idea of your seasons.
I would get in there first and then switch because if anything falls through, you will sign over the current occupant in error.
All the best
