O/S Daily Monday 11 November 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Dark, raining and blustery start to the day here.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, swede, carrots, peas, yorkshires and gravy - was lovely and there's some LO's which will be used to make another meal either tomorrow or Wednesday.
Dinner tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.
Yesterday we were chilled, although we did visit both sets of parents in the morning, then came home and had lunch.
This morning I have the plumber coming to mend the toilet in the en suite and hopefully sort out the plumbing under the kitchen sink to stop the water draining back into the WM and DW. I know what needs doing but it's difficult to explain!
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.
Damp outside, there was heavy rain late last night, but not too cold.
Yesterday was an ok day, I caught up on washing and used the TD quite a lot, not very OS I know but it got the laundry out of the way. It's the dreaded ironing next.
Our shower on/off switch has been a bit dodgy, and one of the under wall unit lights in the kitchen failed yesterday, so Dh went to the DIY place to get new bits for them both, and took some stuff to the tip while he was out.
He's repaired both, wish he could repair me, my face is startling, deep purple bruises on a white background, not a good look.
It's the usual Monday ahead, visit friend this morning, and Dgd after school this arvo. She's keen to make Christmas cards so I've bought a few things to add to my own stash, and got things ready for her.
Csarina, meant to ask, are you still doing your blog? I was a regular reader, but can't find it now.
Redruby sorry to hear you slipped and fell - hope you're ok, bet you're a bit stiff.
Jackie, hope you are feeling better.
Thinking of Dumpling, and others who are ill or struggling with life.
Take care folks0 -
Morning All
Hope the walking wounded are recovering, they say these things come in threes, just sorry it was you three.
I've had a great weekend, a fair bit of driving but worth it. Visited the DGC in Perth yesterday, they are so glad to have their Dad home. They are staying with him for the next week as he has time off.
The house could do with some cleaning but that can wait until this evening although the washing is up to date.
Have a happy Monday. Take care. XX0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. No frost here today, the rain is back with us. Currently just a fine drizzle so hoping it stays that way.
SCARLETT I always think bruises get to look worse before they start looking better, Hope our other casualties are feeling less sore.
After my very lethargic day yesterday I must get more mobile today. First I need to go in town for one or two fresh bits as the fridge is looking a bit bare after my no-shopping trip last week.Just enough to keep me going till the end of the week when, hopefully, a grocery shop will happen.
I have the 3 DGDs tonight for tea and sleepover. I don't usually have them Monday but DD has swapped her early Thursday to an early Tuesday as she has a wedding Thursday. I have yet to decide what's on the menu for them!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad and convalescing. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning, raining here but only light cloud so perhaps it will brighten up later.
I've had a busy weekend and have some reports and emails to do today, also certain people have messed the house up big time.
Hope everyone is doing reasonably well and that those who have fallen are not too sore.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all
Cold here and its been raining in the night and more due later.
I have the Dr at 9 this morning and I am hoping he is going to inject my foot its all got a bit confusing and when I spoke to the receptionist last week she assured me that it was all booked in but Im not convinced its going to happen until it actually does !
If he does inject me I cant drive after so dd is taking me and will leave me there and OH will collect me after, there was talk of getting a taxi back but as my foot would be numb I would not want to ask the taxi person to walk me to the house while I leaned on them ! I will have to take a few days off after, Dr said up to 2 weeks but I think I would be ok in a few days, lets just hope it happens !
Rest of the roast pork tongiht which will just need putting in the oven to heat so nothing too taxing, I will have a quick tidy round of the kitchen before I go, and empty the dw etc.
I hope the tumble tots are starting to recover, Scarlett your face sounds really sore xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning :hello:
I had a great relaxing day yesterday, I really needed that! I did go through those cash stashes though, as it was money I thought it was important to get that back to the house ASAP. I felt like Scrooge, sat there surrounded by lots of piles of coins
There was one thing that was annoying, SIL (wife of BIL2) started yelling down the phone whien mr tru was on the phone to BIL2 – he must've had it on speakerphone. She was demanding that everything be dealt with by a solicitor, this is causing strain on their marriage, her family had big fallouts over her dad's will last year and they don't need that again! She went on and on and on...... mr tru asked me what I thought, I told him all of us SILs are irrelevant, it's about doing what their dad wanted and making sure the three of them are in agreement with every tiny decision, and the will couldn't be more simple – a small sum to a good friend then the rest split three ways. That sounds quite sensible and calm doesn't it? But I was raging when I said it and there was lots of swearingHe sent a message later, making it clear that she needs to back off and shut up and offered to take over his role of one of the two executors if he can't cope with it. He worded it really well though, I don't think she could argue back to it. I could never have come up with what he did, my reply would've been back off you nasty interfering !!!!! or you'll have ME to deal with. I've never been a people person

The washing machine worked when I turned it on again later in the day. I've just put a load in and pressed the start button, it took almost a minute to get going, like it was having a little think about whether to start working or not bother
It was cold but sunny yesterday afternoon so we spent a couple of hours in the garden. Moved a few raspberry canes, tidied the border along one side and picked the last of the beans which had been left to start drying out. They can finish drying in the kitchen and we'll plant them next year. We need to go out for chicken feed today, we'll take Scamp and he can have a good run around in a nearby field. I'm not sure about this afternoon, we haven't managed to watch a film yet, maybe today's the day

Good morning,
I've returned from another lovely weekend back in Glasgow. Unfortunately I timed it the same weekend my Mum was away but I managed to fill my weekend seeing various friends and family. Wasn't too expensive either.
Weekly FaceTime call with my Step-Bro in South Korea this morning at 5am, always nice to catch up. Can't remember if I said, but he's confirmed that he and his daughter are coming back in January, with his wife to follow a few months afterwards, once the paperwork has all been sorted. For a few reasons really but mostly to do with the way schools teach kids. In SK they operate like the military; long and arduous hours with lots of pressure. So a lovely late Christmas present for the rest of the family here. Selfish, I know.
I've got yoga tonight which I'm still just contemplating given my neck. It's better, don't get me wrong, but it's not 100%. My current plan is to go along and speak with the teacher before the class starts and ask for her advice. If she advises against, I'll maybe just go on the bike for a bit.
TA - 'convalescing'. Had to google it. That's my new word for the week!
RR - Sorry to hear about the foot. No pun intended, but lets run before you can walk. Take care. And feet - or foot - up and rest.0 -
Tru, It's awful when that happens, one of my sister-in-laws caused a lot of upset by insisting on being at a meeting with the funeral celebrant. It was meant to be just me, my brothers and mum's two remaining sisters reminiscing about mum's life, instead sister-in-law made it about herself and how upset she was. I did learn some things about mum growing up that amazed me though.
Hopefully the new little family will be going home today. Laura was pleased in the end that they spent the time in hospital because she got a lot of help with the breastfeeding which is now well on it's way to being established. Poor little mite has a severe tongue tie which will be assessed tomorrow.
Steve wasn't terribly well yesterday so hopefully h'll be better today. He had a very disturbed night though and is still sleeping.0 -
Morning all! Have shifted the trolley in anticipation of the plumber calling round [ no idea when he'll be here though] to look at the boiler. Also need to empty the ash from the fire and clean the door. I've been using it the last couple od days because it's cold but overnight I use these brick things that are supposed to keep it in and they don't half colour the door up. I didn't put one in last night because it wasn't as cold yesterday.
Am also going to clothes sort again today because when I went to get my suitcase out for a potential trip in a week or two, it's full of clothes! Noooo! I thought I'd cleared the lot!
Got a busy week ahead too in terms of social life, and I need to make two Victoria sponges, one tomorrow, one Wednesday so better get some butter by the fire to soften this evening...SHould be interesting, it's been a year since I last made a cake and that one was a three tier carrot cake...Can't remember the last time I made a sponge.
Hope all the poorlies and brusied people are better! tru, a death in the family can often make the idiots crawl out of the woodwork. Happened when my uncle died, the stuff some of my aunties and uncles did was unbelievable...including stealing the will...ruby, you really need to rest it after the injection, for as long as you're told to...:) snoozer, hope steve is better, how is he doing after his meeting? good news for you and your family Speky! TA, enjoy your tospy turvy tea! Hope you're doing OK dumping and your father wasn't in one of those moods nanny. Nelski, hugs and stuff for the coming week in case of bananas...Hope you're doing OK too Holly.
Magnificent Monday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Good morning everyone.
Given that I seemed to wake every hour during the night I feel well rested.
Yesterday was a bit busy. The huge order arrived on time. I choose a bagged delivery as I knew it would take ages to unpack the crates. The delivery chap was very helpful. It's all now stashed away. I think I have cover-orderedbut only on the household items and not the fresh stuff.
Then my books and paper knickers arrived. Being in town A has a map which shows where the driver is so, from 'eight stops away' I was watching it. When he got to 'one stop away' I sat in the hallway waiting for him. The paper knickers are a success!
Scarlett - wait until your bruises go yellow and green, that's the most scary part.
Tru - you are so right. Nobody who is an 'in law' should have any bearing on what's said or done. As for finding cash, the old friend who died last month had about £5,000 hidden in various parts of his house, mostly in bundles of £200.
Snoozer - it's lovely to read that baby will be going home.
Redruby. - my fingers are crossed that you had your injection and that you're now sitting at home resting.
TA - Pasta Bake by any chance? :rotfl:
My thoughts are with the bruised and battered, both physically and emotionally. Happy Monday to everyone.0
