Ebay RM labels shows 0.001kg weight

So I went to print one of those Royal Mail labels on Ebay- input the weight (780g), select the type (Small parcel), pay £2.90, print- it shows 0.001 weight on the label. Figured must be some sort of a glitch, but no way I'd risk the buyer getting invoiced for insufficient postage, so void that label.

Go through the same thing again, make sure I select the correct weight before proceeding to pay- same thing. So now I'm down £5.80, have 2 voided labels, presumably buyer received 2 notification dispatches with now pointless reference numbers, oh and an ebay message saying "Misuse of online labels or other failure to comply with the standards for Insurance coverage purchased online constitutes grounds for closure or suspension of your eBay account"
This is my first experience of trying to print postage labels via Ebay.

  • Forgot the question- is 0.001kg weight a default on all parcels (eg it never shows the actual weight you've put in) and I was stressing over nothing?
  • I don't know the answer to your question but you can pay the same amount online via Royal Mail directly. They do show the correct weight (and also refund your labels if you're not able to use them).

A small parcel is the same price up to 1kg (2kg for second class) so the price would not change whether the parcel weighed 1g or 780g. Maybe they just use the weight you enter to determine the price and print a weight within the same price band?

well I was wondering if that was the case but I didn't dare send a 780g item that said 1g weight on the label- I imagine buyer would be pretty miffed if Royal Mail tried to charge him for insufficient postage at the time of delivery because the weight wasn't right. According to lindens reply above the correct weight is shown on their packages.

    lindens, Royal Mail via Ebay.

    Thanks for the replies.
