Bathroom Suite

Hi is there a plumber please.

Had a bathroom fitted nearly three years ago, both bath taps and sink tapls now corroding. Supplier VP says they will refund. Two questions.
1) are the receptor holes in the bath a standard distance apart? (Can I buy the tap replacement from anywhere, without any worries on size). I have two taps coming out one spout, in the bath.
2)Without spending too much money, should i stay with VP, or is there another supplier whose chrome rarely detiriorates?....and "no, i havent used anything caustic", only Fairy Antibacterial.
Any help much appreciated

  • 1. Assuming you have a deck mixer (hot tap, spout, cold tap coming from metal base), then the standard is for holes at 180 mm centres through the bath.
    2. If the taps and the spout come directly from the bath, rather than from a metal base which fastens to the bath , you have a three hole tap set, and no fixed standards, although likely to be 180.
    3. Bristan, Vado, Grohe, Franke, HansGrohe, Crosswater are all decent makers of taps, and that's not a definitive list.

A photograph would be useful in determining what you have to give more focused advice.

That is a standard set up, and the fixing holes should be standard.

I am a fan of Bristan and Grohe.

I prefer this style of tap.

The reason is that the fixings stay attached to the bath, and you can change the 'tap' part just by turning the water off and undoing two nuts.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
