Yahoo gone mad, can you help please?

I volunteer for a small charity and my job is to circulate group messages to members by email. I have done so for many years by creating lists on my yahoo account.
Not long ago Yahoo updated its page (nor for the first time). Now the contacts page is not a page but a little window on the side,
In the process, most of my contacts on the list were deleted.
I have no way of recovering them because the function ¨recover deleted contacts¨has disappeared.
On top of that, I attempted to create new lists to insert the missing contacts. But although I go through the right steps the contacts do not appear there.
It is not the only strange thing this server is doing lately. I also have a hotmail account but it does not seem to allow you to create lists to send information to multiple recipients.
I found Yahoo has a telephone number but it is an American one, and there is no guarantee they would reply or help.
The charity might be able to pay for an option if there is a suitable one.
Many thanks.

Yahoo Groups, like much of Yahoo, are a relic of a previous internet age. Although they aren’t widely used now, groups once served as a watering hole for discussion on wonderfully niche interests, such as TV show fan communities and extremely geeky computing topics — almost like Reddit does now. Looking through the directory today, you can still find groups with thousands of members, and some groups have been active as recently as this year.

Sadly, it seems that almost all of that internet history is going to be erased. In a support document, Yahoo says that, effective December 14th, it will be deleting all content that has been posted to Yahoo Groups. And it’s going to largely shut down the service even sooner, as you won’t be able to upload new content to your groups starting this Monday, October 21st.

Once the old content is deleted, all you’ll be able to do on Yahoo Groups is browse the groups directory, request to be invited to one, and, if you’re in a group, email that group.

Here’s Yahoo’s list of what it will remove:

    Files
    Polls
    Links
    Photos
    Folders
    Calendar
    Database
    Attachments
    Conversations
    Email Updates
    Message Digest
    Message History

You should find an alternative to Yahoo groups as a matter of urgency.

This link may help you in your decision.

Thanks to both, but this is NOT Yahoo groups, but Yahoo lists, It is a different matter, It is when you create a list (foreign friends, for instance, or pet owners, whatever) and then you email all the people in that list just with the list name.
It has nothing to do with Yahoo Groups.

In Yahoo Mail deleted contacts only remain so for 14 days so if you (or somebody or something) deleted them, they're permanently gone. If you add a new contact you should then be able to add them to lists.

Shame, though perhaps not unexpected after the Verizon buyout. Just hope they don't start putting the squeeze on free email accounts. I have 20 years of history on there.

Same here, I have yahoo and aol accounts. The spam control changes made one of my emails unusable. Its an age old one that i used on many sites before security was an issue. Now it gets ton of spam because you cannot set the controls to only allow those listed.

No hardship I have tons more emails, but 100% get yourself another email provider as backup.

I use Thunderbird to collect all my emails and aol/yahoo emails keep complaining about an incorrect password. Yet its a saved password so cannot be wrong. Logs in on the webpage no issues except it wants more personal info or a backup email. Then Thunderbird works again.

Its become too much effort to keep using yahoo/aol.

Just because you think it's not yahoo group, because you didn't access it from yahoo groups web page, doesn't mean it wasn't using yahoo groups on the backend.

Can't really offer any advise on fixing this particular issue. But with the long going Yahoo decline you should really think about alternatives sooner, rather than later.

Either another free provider, like Gmail or a cheap (£5-10/month) web-hosting with mail server. If you already have webhosting somewhere, chances are you can get e-mail added for free.

No idea what web hosting is and never liked Gmail. If there is a cheap paid alternative I am pretty sure the charity could pay for it.
I though about going for paid Yahoo but concerned the minute I stop payments all hell si going to break loose. And as some people have said here, I have 20 years of history there...

With hotmail (outlook) you have lists and groups. My advice is don't use lists. Use groups.
