We recently had a failed Scottish Power white meter and took them 7 days to fix it and we were without leccie for those 7 days and we are on the so called "priority services register" with a blind and disabled person living here so we eventually had to go to a hotel - told we are due no compensation!

Apparently Scottish Power dont have any of my type of NEW meter in stock so they had to replace it with old dial meters 3 of them to replace my white meter Horstmann series 13 telemeter.

Unbelievable service - phoned them and they told me they dont do compensation checked the Ofgem website and it seems there may be compensation - their helpdesk is the worst ever.

Scottish Power are truly the worst of any provider in any area and i used to work for them in their IT dept 15 years ago and problems i saw back then are still there and have never been resolved after the Novell Netware migration which i was part of when Spanish Iberdrola took over - another British company gone to the dogs!

This is not the worst though - this meter failed before just 2 years ago and wait for it - it took Scottish power over 5 years to replace the meter in which time i had free electricity and i reckon i saved over £15,000 in leccie bills and they gave me £25 compensation and didnt back bill for the standard year as long as i signed a gagging order and refused to go on the Watchdog TV Programme!

They apparently have a special section now dealing with problems that have not been resolved for "over a year" - Yip believe that.

I also cannot switch to another provider because of this "special" Scottish power tariff and meter so BULB and COOP could not switch me to their cheaper tariffs so not only am i stuck with the worst Service company in the uk i am having to pay more with no way out!

Anyone any idea of compensation terms for Scottish Power as their unhelpdesk and website does not seem to know!

How did your electricity meter fail?

And how did that result in you being off supply???

I think were are decending into the realms of fanstasy here, as Capt. Mainwaring would say

However, for the benefit of anyone who may be drawn to this thread based on the thread title, and have suffered loss of supply, compensation levels for power cuts are described here:

The first time the meter failed it provided electricity but the numbers in the digital display did not advance - took Scottish Power 5 years to replace the meter.

Two years later the same type of meter failed not allowing electricity to flow through it.

Why be so condescending i know it sound mad but that is the reality of Scottish Power the worst ever provider in the history of providers - I sed to work for them so I know how bad it is!

Try and be polite it doesnt take much!

I think you have to concede that your original post was a bit of a rant.

However that said, if you managed to get away with around £15k's worth of leccy I think you are pushing it a bit to try and get some more.

If you want to go for it, then put in a formal claim/complaint to SP - do it in writing and get a complaint reference number and if they don't respond to your satisfaction, either get a deadlock letter or wait the statutory eight weeks and then go to the ombudsman to see what he has to say.

The alternative is to take them to the small claims court to see if a judge agrees with you
