Well saying that...

They would have commercial interline agreements with all other airlines (who could have accommodated them happily and easily!).

When you take away the cost of hotel accommodation in Japan, 3 square meals, and transfers for all their passengers, plus additional staffing, and any potential compensation, you do wonder actually how much they have saved....

I had a flight cancelled earlier on in the year. All I was entitled to was reimbursement for the hotel stay and the transfer by taxi to and from the airport. I had a 22 hour delay and it took me 8 weeks to get the money back!

I don't know the circumstances of your cancellation, but remember that

- What you're entitled to
- What they say you're entitled to
- What they offer
- What you want
- What you ask for
- What you get

are all different. Like anything it's a bargaining process.
