Upgrading from u6 to u16 gas meter
Hi, I am planning refurbishment which means I will need to upgrade to a u16 meter. My gas company sent off for a GT1 test and unfortunately, I will need to upgrade the gas service supply as it is not large enough.
Can anyone tell me what actually happens when the works carry out and how long it will typically take? What should I expect for cost?

Takes a day. Easy job to do. They will probs install a 63pe service.

A U16 gas meter is generally used for small commercial applications that requires greater access to gas than a typical domestic property (although they are also fitted to some domestic properties that have a high consumption)
The first thing the transporter will assess is that the current supply pipes can allow you access to this higher level of consumption without affecting other customers supply. If not, they probably won't allow you to have it or will demand significant sums to allow them to upgrade their whole supply infrastrcture locally.
An assessment will also probably be made as to why you need such a high consumption, and whether your own supply pipes could cater for this.
The meter change itself will probably only take an hour or so.
Any charge will be advised to you depending on what is required, allowing you to either agree or disagree.
Also, a high level of gas consumption may restrict your choice of gas supplier in future and/or they may require you to go onto one of their commercial tariffs.
Which leaves the question, what are you changing that requires you to require such an increased consumption?0
